Netflix in January 2022: Gremlins (1984)

Start your new year strong by revisiting the 1984 classic, Gremlins. It’s great timing since the animated HBO Max prequel series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is expected to release later in 2022. This Joe Dante-directed horror comedy film centers on a gadget salesman who purchases a “mogwai” as a last-minute Christmas gift for his son, unaware of the consequences.

The shopkeeper warns him not to feed the mogwai after midnight, get it wet or expose it to bright light, but several of these rules get broken, resulting in a horde of gremlins attacking on Christmas Eve.

Netflix in January 2022: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)

Just months after Prime Video released their modern remake of Lois Duncan’s original 1973 novel of the same name, Netflix is getting the 1997 teen slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer and its 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

The first movie stars a host of ’90s heartthrobs, including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Four friends accidentally run over a fisherman one night and cover up the crime, vowing to never speak of it. One year later, Julie (Hewitt) receives a cryptic letter, warning her that someone out there knows what they did. The gang must fight for their lives as a hook-handed killer starts picking them off one by one.

In the sequel, the story continues with Julie trying to escape her traumatic run-in with the killer and go on a vacation to The Bahamas. When threatening letters start arriving once again, Julie realizes the killer is still very much alive.

There is a third, direct-to-DVD sequel called I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, that is available to watch on Prime Video.
