The penultimate episode of Yellowjackets is absolutely bonkers, and it’s already making me sad for when we reach the finale and inevitably have to wait forever for a new season. If you haven’t watched Yellowjackets episode 9, turn back now, so you don’t get spoiled!

The latest episode, “Doomcoming,” features the girls throwing a big final party in the woods as they wait for their impending death now that there is virtually no chance of being rescued anytime soon after Laura Lee and the plane explosion. We’re looking at some of the episode’s most shocking moments.

Yellowjackets episode 9: Shauna kills Adam

The opening of Yellowjackets episode 9 is easily one of the most shocking in the entire show. Moments after confronting Adam because she thinks he’s the blackmailer, Shauna ends up stabbing him to death in his own apartment! It turns out Adam was just a normal guy who happened to look into the plane crash and kept some materials on it after he had gotten to know Shauna.

At least, that’s what it looks like right now, but it’s possible we could find out more about Adam later. For now, it seems like Shauna just murdered an innocent man and based on the creepy flashbacks she has during it, I don’t think it’s the first time she’s killed someone either.

Luckily for Shauna, she has Taissa, Misty and Nat to help her clean up the mess. By the end of the episode, she and Jeff have concocted a plan to pin the blackmail on Adam and lie to Shauna’s teammates about it to hide Jeff’s involvement. Nat has recruited Misty to help hide the body because, of course.

Yellowjackets episode 9: Jeff is the blackmailer

Yes, you read that right. Adam wasn’t the blackmailer, after all, Jeff was. He got in over his head with some scary loan sharks after his furniture business went belly-up and stole Shauna’s journals from the safe to blackmail Taissa, assuming she had the money to pay him off and help Jeff get back on his feet. Surprisingly, Jeff actually comes out of this episode looking like a pretty great guy.

Not only do we find out he read Shauna’s journals a long time ago (and never judged her for their contents), but we also learn that he wasn’t even having an affair, and he forgives Shauna pretty quickly for her indiscretions along with revealing that he still loves her. Plus, he totally has her back on the whole murder thing and helps her plan the cover-up. Yeah, Jeff is a real ride-or-die. We also have to all agree that “WHAT? THERE’S NO BOOK CLUB?” is one of the season’s best lines.

Yellowjackets episode 9: Jackie and Travis have sex

In 1996, things get insane at their “Doomcoming” party, as the girls pretty much realize it’s the end of the world for them, and they might all die of starvation soon. Jackie dives headfirst into nihilism, refusing to eat anything and going out of her way to seduce Travis so she can have sex before she dies.

Yellowjackets episode 9: The girls go feral, and Lottie is the Antler Queen?

Misty spiked the water with magic mushrooms, unbeknownst to everyone, so everyone who eats the tea and soup gets high as hell. Something dark and sinister happens in the woods that causes all of the girls to pretty much go feral, led by Lottie, who darns the antlers and netting everyone has been referring to as the “Antler Queen” getup. It looks like Lottie might be the queen, although it could also be a red herring as we don’t see the official moment shown in the first episode.

Either way, the girls go black-eyed and terrifying as they attack Travis after finding him with Jackie (and locking Jackie in a closet), they grope him and attempt to sexually assault him, and then they try to cannibalize him. It appears the shrooms have made them envision Travis as a white stag they’re intent on chasing down. The whole thing is crazy and really scary. Lottie also keeps warning everyone that “something big is coming” and that Jackie “took something that wasn’t hers.” It’s a bit confusing.

Luckily for Travis, Natalie intervenes before Shauna can slit his throat. Seeing as Natalie has been high many times before, the shrooms don’t affect her much, and Jackie is the only one who doesn’t eat any of them, as is shown earlier in the episode. By the episode’s end, Jackie and Natalie come out looking like the only sane ones in the group. It’ll be interesting to see if that leads to an alliance between them, despite the whole Travis thing.

Yellowjackets episode 9: Coach Ben tells Misty he’s gay

Finally, there is Coach Ben, who I fear is not long for this world. He finally tells Misty that he’s super gay and into his boyfriend, Paul. We don’t see Ben again after that, so I have to wonder if MIsty might have killed him. Even if she didn’t, I don’t think he’s going to survive much longer.
