Astrid & Lilly Save the World recap season 1, episode 2 recap: A monster attacks school bullies
By Mads Lennon
Astrid and Lilly saved the day in the premiere of Astrid & Lilly Save the World by defeating the Tearjerker and taking his tongue, or “tontoom,” as it’s called in this monster dimension, and now they’re both feeling a little extra confidence as we progress into the second episode. Who wouldn’t feel good about themselves after saving the day and defeating a creature, even a weirdly sexy one?
But the show’s premise rests on this teenage duo having to fight several monsters to gather the ingredients necessary to close the monster dimension for good, meaning there are plenty more creatures for Astrid and Lilly to fight. In Astrid & Lilly Save the World episode 2, “Teeth,” the best friends go up against a being with thousands of razor-sharp teeth that likes to turn bullies into big piles of goo.
SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Astrid & Lilly Save the World season 1, episode 2.
It doesn’t take long for weird alternate dimension stuff to happen during Astrid and Lilly’s return to Pine Academy. Their day starts with a strange rift opening up above them and unceremoniously dumping weird brown goo all over their principal and vice principal. Blaming Astrid and Lilly for the incident, the pair are forced to set up and clean up the school’s extracurricular fair as a punishment.
Lilly signs up for the yearbook committee during the fair, and Astrid gets a public scolding from her mom for pissing off the principal. Yet again, the creepy bible study group led by Candace’s mom is used as a potential threat for Astrid if she keeps stepping out of line. Once the fair is over, Astrid and Lilly realize that the third member of their party, their classmate Andy, is suspiciously a no-show. As Lilly’s leg starts acting up and Astrid’s super-scent kicks in, the two are led to a disgusting pile of goo, formerly known as Andy.

With the assistance of their guide Brutus, Astrid and Lilly find out that the weird rift we saw at the beginning of the episode and the dead kid are all signs of a terrifying monster arrival known as Razor, who feeds off testosterone most commonly found in big beefy teenagers. The only thing that can help Lilly and Astrid deal with Razor is…an oboe.
It doesn’t take long for Astrid and Lilly to realize that Razor is actually the mysterious sales lady, Sally, we saw lurking around the fair with Val. Val takes an immediate liking to Sally, who takes Val under her wing and uses her to lure unsuspecting boys into the storage facility to move furniture around for the theater department and other school functions. We watch as Razor devours yet another teen.
Next, Razor sets her sites on Tate. Lilly and Candace work together at a sports game to take photographs for the yearbook. Lilly happens to notice Sally watching the field from the stands. Then Candace mentions that Tate blew her off to help Sally with something, and suddenly Lilly realizes that Sally is probably Razor and Tate might become her latest victim.

But Tate avoids almost becoming yet another monster’s snack by bailing on Sally, leaving Razor with no choice but to eat Val instead. Luckily for Val, Astrid and Lilly show up in time with their magical oboe and incapacitate Razor. However, before killing her, Razor asks the pair why not join her instead? Aren’t they tired of being humiliated and ostracized by the school bullies who call them stuff like “Pudge Patrol?”
It’s honestly not the worst point ever made, but then Razor tries to flee, and the monster-fighting duo realizes they need to get rid of her once and for all. Using the oboe, Astrid and Lilly takedown Razor and steal some of her teeth for their orb. The success of their mission helps them regain some of that earlier confidence, and Astrid even asks Sparrow out on a date—and he says yes!
