Shudder announces “funnier and gorier” sequel to Scare Package
By Carla Davis
Scare Package made its US debut as a Shudder Exclusive in 2020, and it was popular enough with subscribers that the horror streaming service has now announced a sequel, Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge.
Scare Package was set to premier on Shudder on June 18 of 2020, but popped up as a surprise feature on the June 12 episode of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. Joe Bob fans will remember this as the episode that featured the long lost Hogzilla. I suppose that was too long ago for this to be considered a spoiler, but JB himself appeared in both Hogzilla and Scare Package.
Shudder Original Scare Package was a fun, fast-paced and gory anthology-style film.
Each short story was a love letter to different horror genres and tropes. We got babysitters, strange green goo, werewolves, pillow fights, final girls and even an old school video store.
Original creators Aaron B. Koontz and Cameron Burns are both returning for the sequel, which is slated to bring back a handful of characters for a second round. Returning characters include Rad Chad (Jeremy King), Jessie (AKA Final Girl, played by Zoe Graham) and Sam (Byron Brown).
Joining the returning crew are 80s sweetheart/scream queen Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall), Rich Sommer (who played Mr. Mackey in Summer of ’84), Maria Olsen (Paranormal Activity 3), Graham Skipper (VFW) and Shakira Ja’nai Paye (Obama’s Other Daughters).
Anthony Cousins, who directed the The Night He Came Back Again Part IV segment for Scare Package, returns to direct the sequel-within-a-sequel, The Night He Came Back Again Part VI: The Night She Came Back. Additional directors include Rachele Wiggins (Deadhouse Dark), Alexandra Barreto (All Americans) and Jed Shepherd, co-writer/producer of Shudder’s Host. As a special bonus, cast members from Host will be appearing in Scare Package II.
Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge features the survivors of the original film attending Rad Chad’s funeral. A series of deadly traps tied in with Chad’s favorite horror films force the funeral attendees to work together to survive.
Creator Koontz promises that Scare Package II will be “bigger, funnier and gorier” than the original, so it looks like fans will be in for a wild ride. Bring your raincoats, kids, it’s going to get messy!
