Netflix is releasing a new true crime documentary this month about serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Conversations With a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes is bound to be terrifying, based on what we know about Gacy and the horrific murders he committed.

John Wayne Gacy is probably one of the best-known serial killers in the United States, largely due to the scope of his crimes and the fact that he regularly  performed at events dressed as a clown.

Gacy is known to have killed at least 33 men and boys, with 26 of his victims found buried in the crawl space beneath his home. Five of the bodies have never been identified, even though the murders were committed between 1972 and 1978.

60 hours of audio discussions between Gacy and his defense team have provided new insight into the crimes, and viewers will be able to hear much of that audio in the docu-series.

The three-part Netflix series will also include interviews with key participants in the investigation, as well as one of Gacy’s intended victims. Much of the series’ focus will be on how Gacy was able to literally get away with murder for so many years.

Gacy was eventually found guilty after a jury deliberated for less than two hours, and served 14 years at Menard Correctional Center before finally being executed by lethal injection on May 9, 1994.

Gacy’s most recent victim to be identified was Francis Wayne Alexander, who was 21 years old at the time of his death. He was identified through forensic geneology in October of 2021, 45 years after he is believed to have been murdered.

Conversations With a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes is the second installment in Joe Berlinger’s ongoing Netflix series. The first was Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, and you can currently watch it on Netflix.

Conversations With a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes will be available to stream on Netflix on April 20.
