Monstrous: Release date, cast, synopsis and trailer for Christina Ricci horror film

Christina Ricci will be back in a central horror role in the upcoming Monstrous, a genre-mashup extravaganza set in American suburbia, where things seem to take a murkier turn after her son wishes to befriend an ominous entity. Directed by Chris Sivertson, who previously worked on I Know Who Killed Me and All Cheerleaders Die, Monstrous will be released in theaters and available on-demand, courtesy of Screen Media.

Monstrous Synopsis

Seeing someone like Christina Ricci, who played the iconic role of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family, slip into the role of a mother hell-bent on protecting her child from something nefarious, is definitely an interesting premise. Monstrous is set in a seemingly idyllic location, a lakeside paradise that appears heavily, which is where Laura (Ricci) and her son Cody (Santino Bernard) move in. Attempting to heal from an abusive relationship, Laura seeks solace in a fresh start. However, when a creepy monster lady who “lives in the pond” catches Cody’s attention, Laura must do everything to maintain her sanity and protect her son.

The trailer for the film evokes an atmosphere of urgency, as the tone shifts from sheltered bliss to emotions of unease, especially after Ricci’s character is forced to face the reality of the horrors that await her. Monstrous Cast Details & More

While Ricci plays Laura, a single mother fresh out of an abusive dynamic, attempting her best to start her life anew, Santino Barnard plays Cody, a curious child who does not seem to be disturbed by supernatural occurrences. In fact, the trailer suggests that Cody welcomes the idea of the creature in the lake, which might be due to a manifestation of loneliness or vicarious trauma, although it is too early to speculate. Colleen Camp will also be playing a seminal role in the film.
