Shudder and FANGORIA have announced that the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards will air exclusively on Shudder again this year.

All horror fans know that the Academy Awards mostly ignores our favorite film genre (whether you personally liked Hereditary or not, Toni Collette deserved to win for her harrowing performance that year), so the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards right that wrong by honoring ONLY horror. The award presenters represent all factions of horror filmmaking, with last year’s presenters including Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Smith and Jason Blum.

The Chainsaw Awards ceremony began in 1992, and in 2015, FANGORIA began recognizing horror in television as well as on the big screen. Some of the awards are what you would expect, but there are categories for Best Wide Release and Best Limited Release which allows smaller films (like many of the amazing Shudder Originals) to be recognized.

In 2021, The Invisible Man won for Best Wide Release, and Color Out of Space took home the Best Limited Release Award. Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs won an award for Achievement in Non-Fiction.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted by David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Ant-Man and the Wasp), and presenters will include Dee Wallace , Joe Dante, Radio Silence (Ready or Not, Scream 2022), The Boulet Brothers, Bryan Fuller (Hannibal series), Darcy the Mail Girl (The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and many more.

Nominated films this year include Malignant, Candyman, Last Night in Soho, Werewolves Within, Saint Maud and Censor, and nominated series include Chucky, Midnight Mass and Creepshow.

FANGORIA is one of the few horror film fan magazines still in existence. Its first issue was published in 1979, and temporarily ceased publication in 2017, before coming back a year later.

The Chainsaw Awards ceremony will premiere on Sunday, May 15, 7:00 p.m. ET on Shudder, and will be available to watch On Demand the following day.
