The horror genre is in a renaissance of remakes and sequels (for better or worse) which means iconic horror movie villains like Michael Myers, Chucky, and Ghostface have another chance to terrorize their victims and enthrall audiences with their bloodthirsty shenanigans. It got me thinking: what other horror movie villains should return for another film, whether it’s a sequel or prequel?

Some of the horror movie villains on this list might not be as iconic as Jason Voorhees or Freddy Krueger, and yet each made their mark on the genre in some way. Grab your butcher knives, lock the doors, and say a prayer; here are five horror movie villains who should return for another film.

The Driller Killer- Slumber Party Massacre 2

With his slicked-back dark hair, tight leather outfit, and killer guitar (literally) the Driller Killer from Slumber Party Massacre 2 is a cross between Elvis and Freddy Krueger, with all of Elvis’ charm and all of Krueger’s sadistic wit. Played to cheesy perfection by Atanas Ilitch, the Driller Killer spends the film tormenting protagonist Courtney in her dreams, until her fear is enough to bring him into the real world, where he brutally kills her friends with his driller guitar, all while singing and dancing.

The Driller Killer is cheesy and fun, qualities that seem to be lacking in killers these days. Another Slumber Party Massacre film could present a modernized version of the Driller Killer, complete with this greaser look and massive guitar. The film could be a spoof or riff of the Nightmare on Elm Street films…or even a crossover. Who knows? But this Dream Demon (aka Driller Killer) should grace our screens with his musical chaos once again.

Pamela Voorhees- Friday the 13th

Jason Voorhees might be the face of the Friday the 13th film series, but his crazed mother Pamela is the original killer who kickstarted a franchise and terrorized a generation of horror fans with her creepy babbling and bloodthirsty nature. Vengeance is the name of Pamela’s game, and she plays it to perfection. Sure she gets decapitated at the end of her killing spree, but she managed to build quite the body count first. A prequel film could explore Pamela’s origins and her early years at Camp Crystal Lake with her son Jason. Pamela is an intriguing figure, with plenty of mystery and an open-ended backstory that could be explored in a prequel film as she falls further into madness and grief.

The Miner- My Bloody Valentine

I was always surprised that the original My Bloody Valentine, a Canadian slasher flick that was released in 1981, didn’t have more sequels, especially because of the cliff-hanger ending of the first film and several intriguing drafts of a potential second. The Miner, the intimidating antagonist of the film, terrorizes the town of Valentine Bluffs when they throw on a Valentine’s Day celebration. The Miner is one of the scariest horror villains on this list, with a thirst for blood and violence that few can rival. The Miner carries out a gruesome killing spree, set to the backdrop of a whodunnit murder mystery. However, the film ends with the Miner trapped in the mines, singing crazily to himself as the survivors of his spree look on in shock. A sequel could pick up a few decades after the original, with a new crop of victims planning the next big Valentine’s Day celebration when the killings resume.

Leslie Vernon – Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

This mockumentary is a meta-cult classic about a film crew as they interview and follow a wannabe slasher villain, Leslie Vernon, as he plans his first killing spree. The original concept of the film sets itself up nicely for a sequel, which could serve as a critique on the various sequels, remakes, and reimaginings that make up the genre. Despite his near-fatal injuries at the end of the film, Leslie survives his killing spree and runs in with the final girl Taylor. A sequel could follow Leslie as he transcends into the next level of slasher movie villain.

Jason Voorhees- Friday the 13th- one of the most iconic horror movie villains who will never die

This last entry on this list might be a cop-out, but please please please, let us have Jason Voorhees back. People might be sick of the Friday the 13th series, but Jason will always have a place in my heart. A new film could follow Jason as he stalks and murders another group of dumb camp counselors, only this time he must contend with a group of survivors from his previous killings, including Tommy Jarvis and Ginny Field, who’ve come back to the scene of their trauma to confront the hockey mask-wearing killer for one final stand.
