Shudder and The Boulet Brothers enter deal to expand the Dragula franchise
By Carla Davis
The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula season four was one of Shudder’s most-streamed series last year. Now the horror streaming platform has worked out a deal with the Boulet Brothers which will allow them to expand their franchise.
In the works are a new season of Dragula, a spinoff series and an as-yet untitled special, all of which will premiere exclusively on Shudder over the next year.
First up is the Dragula spin-off series, which has completed filming, and is set to premiere in the fall. We are being promised that more details will be coming soon. If you aren’t familiar with Dragula, you can currently watch seasons 2 – 4 on Shudder, which I highly recommend doing. It’s a fun, horror-centric drag competition that has to be seen to be believed.
Shudder General Manager Craig Engler praised the talent and creativity of the the Boulet Brothers, and the brothers themselves (known as Swanthula and Dracmorda) proclaimed that their fans “are truly not ready for what’s coming next. It’s going to be a wild, fun, and terrifying new ride.”
Drac and Swan were a huge hit when they guested on Joe Bob’s Heartbreak Trailer Park, the Valentine’s special for Shudder original series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. Horror fans who weren’t familiar with the Boulet Brothers were impressed when they watched them discuss horror films with Joe Bob. Fangoria named them “horror’s new icons” and featured them on the cover of what would become their fastest-selling issue.
The multi-talented duo head up all aspects of their projects, including music production, writing, costume designs and all of their business affairs, all while appearing in magazines such as Heavy Metal and Entertainment Weekly.
In my humble opinion, Shudder teaming up with The Boulet Brothers feels like a match made in horror heaven!
