Netflix is releasing Lou, a new action-thriller film on Tuesday, September 23. Lou stars Allison Janney and Jurnee Smollett, and the two are also Executive Producers for the film.

Lou (Janney) once lived a dangerous life, but now she has settled into normalcy, enjoying the quiet. All of that changes when a desperate mother approaches her, asking her to help her find and save her daughter, who has been kidnapped.

As a storm whips up around them, the women set out on a dangerous rescue, which tests their mettle, while also exposing their dark secrets.

Allison Janney is mainly known for her comedic chops, but she is no stranger to drama, thrillers and horror. She has appeared in films such as Dead Funny, Wolf, Nurse Betty and The Addams Family. She’s very versatile, so I would totally buy her as a bad a**, especially after seeing her in the trailer (below).

And Jurnee Smollett has projects such as True Blood, Lovecraft Country and the Ovation episode of The Twilight Zone under her belt, so the two main characters in Lou should be well-acted and compelling. Two strong actresses on a violent quest to save a kid? Count me in!

The writers, director and producers of Lou have some pretty hefty projects on their resumes as well.

Director Anna Foerster also directed Underworld: Blood Wars, as well as episodes of both West World and Carnival Row. Maggie Cohn and Jack Stanley wrote the screenplay, and Cohn also worked on episodes of The Staircase and American Crime Story.

Lou is produced by Hannah Minghelle, Jon Cohen and JJ Abrams (who you probably remember from the iconic series Lost).
