Dario Argento’s Dark Glasses receiving a theatrical run in October
By Carla Davis
Shudder has already announced its acquisition of Dario Argento’s Dark Glasses, which will be available to stream on the horror platform beginning October 13 as part of their 61 Days of Halloween event. Now comes the news that Dark Glasses will be receiving a theatrical run on Friday, October 7.
The new film will begin its run at the IFC Center in New York and at LA’s Laemmle Glendale, with additional theaters being added to the run on Friday, October 14. Those theaters will be announced at a later date.
Perhaps best known for films such as Suspiria, Deep Red, Tenebrae and The Bird With the Crystal Plumage (which, along with The Cat o’ Nine Tails and Four Flies on Grey Velvet is considered his “Animal Trilogy”), Argento’s latest film has been highly anticipated. Dario Argento is considered the Italian master of horror, having written and directed giallo films since the 1960s.
Giallo is best described as a blend of mystery, thriller, psychological horror and slasher, with a dash of eroticism, and peaked in the 1970s. But, as the recent remake of Suspiria, along with films such as The Neon Demon proved, it still has a place at the horror table.
Dark Glasses is set in Rome, when a summer eclipse darkens the skies.
A young woman named Diana crashes her car while trying to get away from a serial killer, and when she comes to, she is blind, but not alone. With her is a little boy named Chin, who also survived the car crash and is willing to help her fight for her life by acting as her eyes. But will both Diana and Chin be able to escape the killer?
Dark Glasses stars Ilenia Pastorelli, Andrea Zhang and Asia Argento, and was both written and directed by Dario Argento.
