USA / SYFY gave us some good news this week: two of  their horror series, Chucky and Reginald the Vampire have been renewed. Horror series are few and far between, so it’s always nice to see them doing well in ratings.

Everyone’s favorite carrot-topped “Good Guy” will be returning for a third season, and Reginald will be back for a second round in 2023. The return of Chucky is not really surprising, since it ranked in the top 10 drama cable series list in the 18 – 49 demo. Chucky Executive Producer Don Mancini thanked fans and critics alike, stating that the season renewal had “made Chucky very happy.” Mancini was relieved, because “otherwise, Chucky would have been frankly impossible deal with.”

That statement is indicative of the fun way the series (and Chucky himself) have been marketed. Chucky’s twitter account is a joy to follow, since he seems to constantly wage twitter war against select individuals. He and series co-star Devon Sawa went back and forth at each other for a while, and amped up the insults to one another when it was announced that Sawa would be returning for season two.

Chucky has also engaged in witty banter with M3GAN, whose film was released this month. Anyone who has seen the movie most likely noticed the homage paid to Chucky, so that seems fitting.

Reginald the Vampire, based on the series of books by Johnny B. Truant) made its debut on SYFY in 2022, and ended up ranking as the #2 cable drama in the Wednesday time slot (that’s among viewers age 18 – 49). Executive producer Harley Peyton said “The only thing better than getting the opportunity to make a season of television with SYFY is to get the opportunity to do it again.”

No dates have been announced as of now, but I think October is a pretty safe bet.
