Scream VI release date, cast, trailer and first look images
By Carla Davis
A whole slew of info was just released regarding Scream VI, which will be opening March 10! We have a trailer, a poster, the cast list and some first look images to report on, so let’s break it down.
First, let’s talk about that cast, shall we? Returning cast members from Scream 2022 include Melissa Barrera (Sam), Jenna Ortega (Tara), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy) and Mason Gooding (Chad). Scream franchise alumni include Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and Hayden Panettiere (Kirby, Scream 4). Panettiere’s return is something fans have been clamoring for, since her “murder” happened offscreen.
New actors appearing in Scream VI will include Jack Champion, Henry Czemy, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori and Josh Segarra. The biggest news regarding new cast members are the additions of Dermot Mulroney (Umma, American Horror Story) and one of my personal favorite modern scream queens, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, The Babysitter).
Since Weaving doesn’t appear in the newly-released full trailer, perhaps she will be the traditional victim in the opening scene…which brings us to that trailer. Wow! Scream VI looks intense, judging by the scenes presented in the trailer.
The new film’s tagline is “New York, New Rules”, and will feature the returning characters in New York City this time around. We get an action-packed scene with sisters Sam and Tara in a bodega. When Ghostface walks in, a tough-looking patron confronts him, and is viciously knifed, then the store owner is shot with his own gun.
Gale is being tormented by phone, and when she dismisses the caller by saying things have never ended well for the multiple Ghostfaces that came before, he delivers a chilling line: “There’s never been one like me, Gale. I’m something…different.” And indeed, this killer seems less stealthy than those in the past, willing to attack in kill publicly (including on a crowded subway car).
We also get to see what is basically a shrine to prior victims and killers, with items of clothing, weapons, and even several Ghostface costumes displayed. All in all, this one looks like it may even be better than the last film; except for the fact that Sidney and Dewey are not part of it.
