With the start of 2023, horror fans are already looking ahead to films that will terrify us throughout the year. We’ve still got some time to wait for horror sequels like Scream 6, Evil Dead Rise, and Insidious: Fear the Dark, but thankfully, there’s a horror original that will be out on the big screen as soon as this week! Full of horror, mystery, and science fiction, Infinity Pool is coming to theaters Friday, January 27th.

The film is about a writer (Alexander Skarsgård) who is guided by an alluring woman (Mia Goth) to travel with his wife to a fancy and secluded island resort. After a gruesome accident, the culture of the resort soon transforms into a perverse and surreal world of terror.

A notable creator and cast give us high hopes for the film.

Infinity Pool is written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, the filmmaker responsible for the 2020 sci-fi horror film Possessor, which is currently available on Hulu. You may be more familiar with him as the son of David Cronenberg – the mind behind The Fly (1986), Dead Ringers (1988), and most recently, Crimes of the Future (2022).

Infinity Pool stars Alexander Skarsgård (The Legend of Tarzan), an actor who is a bit of a newcomer to the horror genre. He is accompanied by horror darling Mia Goth who recently killed 2022 with the critically acclaimed films X and Pearl. Australian actress Cleopatra Coleman, who you may remember from the 2019 Netflix film In the Shadow of the Moon, also stars in the movie.

Get ready for some heavy adult content with Infinity Pool.

Interestingly, the film was originally given a rating of NC-17, but was re-edited and appealed to receive an R rating. The MPAA has given Infinity Pool an R rating due to graphic violence, disturbing material, strong sexual content, and graphic nudity. With that in mind, you may want to leave the kids at home for this one.

Filmed in Croatia and Hungary, Infinity Pool is bound to deliver gorgeous scenery and interesting visuals through the eye of cinematographer Karim Hussain. Hussain is no stranger to horror films, as he previously worked with Brandon Cronenberg on Possessor (2020). Alongside that, he was the cinematographer for Firestarter (2022) as well as the director of photography for Orphan: First Kill (2022).

The trailer for Infinity Pool is bound to increase your excitement for it’s release. Knowing the classic Cronenberg style, this film will surely increase our heartbeats and warp our minds. How exciting!

Infinity Pool will officially be released on January 27, 2023.
