Move over, Leprechaun, the redcaps are coming to town. Or at least to select theaters and then to digital when Unwelcome, a new creature feature, is released in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

It may not be one of the horror movies people are most looking forward to seeing in 2023. But it may turn out to be a sleeper hit if it’s anything as good as its trailer.

The official poster was recently released, which includes a knife-wielding redcap. That’s our first glimpse at the mythological creature that is similar in size to a leprechaun, but that’s where the comparison ends.

While both are supernatural beings found in Irish folklore, redcaps don’t cobble shoes or, as they’re more stereotypically portrayed, protect pots of gold at the end of rainbows. Wikipedia maybe sums it up best by describing redcaps as “malevolent, murderous” goblins who protect their “lairs” to the death.

I think I’d rather take my chances with a leprechaun. What about you?

While you think about your answer, let’s take a look at what Unwelcome is all about, including its synopsis, trailer, cast, and release date.
