According to AMC Networks,  hit series Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches has taken over the coveted title of the #1 new series premiere on AMC+. Its predecessor was Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampirewhich more or less makes the late Anne Rice an MVP on the network.

So delighted are they with the success of Mayfair Witches, AMC has already made the decision to renew the series for a second season.

To put this in perspective, Mayfair Witches drew more viewers than both Interview with the Vampire AND the final season of The Walking Dead. Not only that, but the series’ viewership has also grown larger with each episode. Mayfair Witches is a top 10 cable drama with adults 18-49, 25-54, and also with total viewers. Though no premier date has been announced for season two as of yet, production should begin this year in New Orleans.

AMC Networks’ president of entertainment Dan McDermott said the network is “thrilled with the reaction to this series.” He says they are looking forward to presenting second seasons for both Interview with the Vampire and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.

Mark Johnson, who has been placed in charge of the entire Anne Rice “universe” for AMC stated that both series’ success is due to the enduring legacy of the author’s work, and that the network is very proud of the work already done, while also excited about “the storytelling opportunities yet to come.”

Mayfair Witches is based on Rice’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches, and is about a young neurosurgeon named Rowan Fielding, played by Alexandra Daddario. Rowan is grappling with the recent discovery that she is the descendent of a family of witches, while also dealing with an evil presence that seems to have it in for her family.

New episodes of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches appear on AMC each Sunday at 9:00 p.m., or AMC+ subscribers can watch three days early.
