Hey Apple TV+, what’s the holdup with Invasion season 2?
I was there for Servant, but one of the other shows that immediately caught my eye when I gifted myself an Apple TV+ subscription this past Christmas was Invasion. In fact, it was the first Apple TV+ original series that I binged. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to know when Invasion season 2 would be out.
Surely it would have to be pretty soon, I reasoned. Season 1 had ended the year before, with the last episode premiering on Dec. 10, 2021. To my relief, a quick Google search revealed Apple TV+ had renewed it for a second season, an announcement they’d made only days before the last episode of season 1 aired.
Phew! Because that was going to be a major bummer otherwise. Season 1 ended on a mother of a cliffhanger that definitely warranted a second season —and suggested there’d be one.
But so far there’s been no announcement about a release date for season 2. What’s the holdup? Has it even started filming? Or is it already done, is in post-production, and a release date is imminent?
I went in search of more info. Before I share what I dug up, let’s revisit what Invasion is about.
Invasion synopsis
Earth is visited by an alien species that threatens humanity’s existence. Events unfold in real-time through the eyes of five ordinary people across the globe as they struggle to make sense of the chaos unraveling around them.
Invasion season 2 filming and production
The Digital Fix provided clues to a couple of answers, including whether or not filming for Invasion season 2 had even begun. According to them, it started a year ago, in January 2022.
They also speculated that if post-production on season 2 took about the same amount of time as season 1, then they guesstimated Invasion season 2 might release as early as Spring 2023.
I’m hoping that will be the case and that we’ll hear news of a release date soon. And when we do, we’ll let you know.
