Slasher: Ripper release date, cast, synopsis, and trailer

The next season of Slasher is almost here. Shudder recently released the official trailer and artwork for Slasher: Ripper, the latest installment in the Slasher franchise.

It might prove reminiscent of the second season, Slasher: Guilty Party. Not the storyline, per se, but rather the killer. Instead of being a male, the characters will be hunted by a murderer wearing a veil and a black dress who goes by the name of The Widow. Judging from what we see in the trailer, she’s not the sort whose bad side you want to be on.

Not that her attire resembles the hooded parka-wearing killer in Guilty Party, mind you. It’s more the fact of who the killer is.

If she’s even a woman. You know how the Slasher installments go, you can’t always guess who the killer will be.

But as far as delivering plenty of scares and gore, Slasher: Ripper is set to follow in the same bloody footsteps as the installments that have preceded it. In fact, the trailer declares it’s “the most gruesome season of horror yet.”

The fifth season debuts on Thursday, April 6 on Shudder and AMC+. It’ll premiere with two episodes. Then new ones will roll out weekly on Thursdays after that.

Here’s the synopsis from the press release:

"Slasher: Ripper takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century and follows Basil Garvey (McCormack), a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood. There’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may wind up being yet another victim of The Widow."

Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) joins Slasher franchise alumni Paula Brancati, Gabriel Darku, Salvatore Antonio, Lisa Berry and Sabrina Grdevich.

Slasher: Ripper also stars Clare McConnell (Star Trek: Discovery), Thom Allison (Killjoys), Daniel Kash (Aliens) and Sadie Laflamme-Snow (The Way Home).
