The Silenced is a 2015 South Korean horror-thriller film directed by Lee Hae-young and starring Park Bo-young and Uhm Ji-won. The movie is set in the late 1930s in a girls’ boarding school, where a mysterious illness has broken out, causing several students to fall ill and die. The arrival of a new student, Ju-ran (Park Bo-young), coincides with the spread of the illness and strange events at the school.
Park Bo-young stars as Ju-ran, a new student who quickly becomes suspicious of the strange events happening at the school. Uhm Ji-won plays the strict headmistress of the school, who seems to have secrets of her own. Other cast members include Park So-dam, who plays a sickly student and Joo Bo-bi, who plays Ju-ran’s only friend.
The movie is set in 1938 during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Ju-ran, a young girl from Seoul, is sent to a remote boarding school in the countryside due to her poor health.
