It’s official! Ti West’s MaXXXine has now started filming

A24 just announced that X sequel MaXXXine has now officially begun production. MaXXXine joins X and Pearl as the final installment in Ti West’s horror film franchise, with all three films featuring Mia Goth.
X took the horror world by storm when it debuted in March of 2022. With its gritty and gory vibe, it was very much a throwback to films such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and was even set in the same time period of the 1970s. Mia Goth played two roles in X, young wannabe starlet Maxine, and the elderly, seemingly harmless Pearl. As we were to learn, Pearl was anything but harmless. Let’s just say she had a way with a pitchfork.
Maxine was the only survivor of a group of filmmakers determined to make the next Debbie Does Dallas. After renting a guest house from Pearl and her husband Howard, the group commenced to making a porn film that they never got the chance to complete. The end of X saw Maxine hastily driving away from the bloody multiple murder scene.
At the premiere of X, audiences learned that Ti West had already filmed a sequel called Pearl. Of course, Mia Goth reprised the title role, only this time as a much younger woman in 1918. Goth gave a powerhouse performance as the deranged Pearl, and we got to take a peek at how her madness began, and how she started down the road to becoming a serial killer.
MaXXXine will be the final film in the X trilogy
When Pearl was screened at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival, another announcement was made: a third film, titled MaXXXine, would now join X and Pearl. Mia Goth will once again be playing the role of Maxine, who, as you remember, was the only survivor in the first film. Set in 1985, MaXXXine follows the title character as she continues to chase stardom via performing in burlesque shows and adult films.
In addition to Mia Goth, MaXXXine will also feature Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Moses Sumney, Bobby Cannavale, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Collins and singer Halsey.
