Tubi brings us a Golden State Killer doc and some REALLY creepy pasta in May
By Carla Davis
Tubi has some more great horror additions for the month of May, including a Tubi Original about some terrifying pasta. Nope, I didn’t make that up! Let’s take a look at the Tubi schedule for May.
Evil Among Us: The Golden State Killer (May 10) – This Tubi Original sounds perfect for the true crime fans amongst us. One of the most prolific serial rapists/killers in the US, Joseph DeAngelo hid in plain site in California for more than 40 years. He walked around a free man until genealogy worked its scientific magic and brought him down due to DNA. If you aren’t familiar with DeAngelo’s story, I highly recommend watching this one.
Sleeping Beauties (May 16) – Another Tubi Original, this one introduces us to widowed and pregnant Cahya, who only wants to be able to communicate with her dead husband. When she hires a Shaman to help her, she ends up in a haunted mansion communicating with multiple ghosts.
Pastacolypse (May 21) – A highly successful celebrity chef named Alfredo Manicotti goes on a rampage after gluten is banned worldwide. Somehow his rage transforms him into a monster that is half macaroni. His spoiled daughter Emma must step up to save the world from – you guessed it – Pastacolypse.
Scariest Places in America (May 24) – Whatever terrifying abode captures your fancy, you will find it on this series. We’re talking haunted houses, and even old insane asylums.
The Amityville Curse (May 28) – When a group of friends make the decision to buy a well-known home in order to flip it for profit, they find out that renovations are the least of their troubles. This house is haunted by an evil presence.
Horror films joining the Tubi library:
American Psycho 2 – In this standalone sequel, Mila Kunis is a criminology student who gets the bright idea that killing off her classmates will make her more successful in her chosen profession.
Animal – A group of friends make the very bad decision to hang out in the woods, and find themselves hunted by a scary beast.
Blade – Wesley Snipes stars as the title character, a human/vampire hybrid. He has all the strengths of a vamp, but none of the weaknesses, and uses his strengths to fight against vampires. Tubi is also adding Blade II and Blade Trinity to their library this month.
Brightburn – Imagine if Superman/Clark Kent were evil instead of good. That’s the basic plotline of this 2019 film, in which an infant is discovered in a crashed spaceship. The kindly couple who discover Brandon hide the ship and raise him as their own. But as soon as the child discovers his special powers, he begins to use them with evil intent.
Demonic – Carly has chosen not to maintain contact with her mother Angela, who was imprisoned after setting fire to a care home and poisoning a bunch of churchgoers. But Carly’s friend Martin has some pretty interesting theories about Angela.
Doom – Loosely based on the popular video game series, this film stars Dwayne Johnson, Karl Urban and Rosamud Pike. A group of marines are sent to Mars on a recue mission, and end up fighting off some pretty intense demon-like creatures.
Drag Me to Hell – Dang, this is a fun (and gross) flick! It’s directed and written by Sam Raimi, so you probably already have an idea of things will go, but it deals with a young bank employee named Christine. Desperate for a promotion, she attempts to demonstrate her toughness by denying an old woman’s desperate appeal for a loan extension on her home. Things go south pretty quickly, as Christine finds herself fighting off a curse.
Evil Dead (2013) – I really liked this remake of Raimi’s classic 80s horror flick. Jane Levy appears as Mia, whose friends have spirited her away to a cabin in the woods to help her kick her heroin habit. While there, they accidently awaken an evil force.
Jeepers Creepers – A brother and sister travel through the Florida countryside on their way home for spring break. After they are tailgated by a creepy looking truck, they discover the equally creeper driving dumping what appears to be bodies.
Jeepers Creepers 2 – Set shortly after the events in the first film, a school bus full of high schoolers breaks down, only to find themselves stalked by the Creeper.
Queen of the Damned – Late pop star Aaliyah plays the title role in this standalone sequel to Interview with the Vampire. Lestat is awakened from his grave by the strains of hard rock, and becomes the band’s lead singer. When he taunts his own kind during an interview, other vamps don’t take well to it, and plan to kill him.
The Amityville Horror – The original film that set the standard for “based on a true story” haunted house films, this one stars James Brolin and Margot Kidder as George and Kathy Lutz, who buy a house with a tragic past. The moral of the story is this: If a mass murder has taken place in a house, an unbelievably low price IS too good to be true.
The Blackcoat’s Daughter – A young woman played by Emma Roberts sets out for an isolated prep school where two students are attempting to fight off a sinister force.
The Last House on the Left – It’s unclear which version of this film is coming to Tubi, but the plotlines are fairly similar. Two young women are sexually assaulted and tortured by a sadistic group of people. Afterwards, the criminals seek refuge in a house, not knowing that the owners are the parents of one of their victims.
