Good news for horror movie lovers. Crackle and Redbox are now on a mission to add more horror content to their offerings! Free horror even!

Well, “free” in the case of Redbox. Crackle is an AVOD/FAST (Advertising-Based Video on Demand/Free Ad-Supported TV), so it was already designed to provide free-with-ads programming.

But Redbox is interesting. I thought it was just the kiosks outside grocery stores where you could rent new releases from. Nope. I recently learned it also has an AVOD/FAST component online where you can stream free movies and TV shows.

And I was pleasantly surprised with its selection, which includes classics like Tourist Trap (1979) and The Stepfather (1987), in addition to more current releases like Escape Room (2017) and The Sleepless Unrest documentary (2021).

They also have a ton of indie horror, like Lost Child (2018), which was a haunting slow burn, as well as one of the most successful indies of all time, The Blair Witch Project (1999).

But that’s just scratching the surface. And barely at that. When I say “a lot,” I’m understating it; there are easily hundreds of free horror titles on Redbox. Many of these titles I’ve never heard of before, but sound interesting, like Dolls (2019), Real Cases of Shadow People: The Sarah McCormick Story (2019), and The Jack in the Box (2020) just to name a few.

I also noticed a lot of surprising titles, like the original I Spit on Your Grave (1978) and its 2010 remake, Sleepaway Camp (1983), Alice, Sweet Alice (1976), Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010), and even The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1999). I had no idea Redbox’s offerings were so wide-ranging! Did you?

Anyway, there’s so much more on both Crackle and Redbox, including some great horror choices from the 70s and 80s (my personal fave), like Prom Night and the Phantasm franchise. There’s also some crossover of the same titles on both, too, such as Let the Right One In, Halloween and The Clearing.

Here’s a look at the free horror that became available on both on May 1 unless otherwise indicated.
