Ah, July. Sun and sand reign supreme on many people’s minds, which makes it the perfect month for all things shark. Discovery sort of set the bar with its long-running Shark Week series of programming. But other places often get in on the act too. For instance, Shudder is releasing its original documentary Sharksploitation on July 21 this year. And Sharkfest is underway at Crackle, which is what we’re here to explore.

Crackle has all the movies starring a terrifying, toothy, finned apex predator of the ocean grouped under the “Shark Fest!” section on their site. I’m not sure if they’ll add any more, but so far, they’ve got 25.

Before we dive in to check them out, though, a word of caution. You won’t find popular shark hits like Jaws or The Shallows among the Sharkfest titles. However, there are lots of campy options, such as Sharknado and “versus” type movies (ie. Sharktopus vs. or Mega Shark vs.). There’s even a movie called Shark Week!

As far as the human stars of these shark movies, you’ll find plenty of unknown actors (with varying levels of talent), but also some recognizable names too.

For instance, Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV) stars as an exotic species black market dealer who ends up working with a local cop to stop something he unleashed from eating the locals in Shark Lake.

Red Water brings together Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns), Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Coolio (Daredevil).

Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs) stars in Megalodon, while Carmen Electra (Scary Movie) and Brooke Hogan (GLOW) light it up in 2-Headed Shark Attack.

Even Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers and Sleepy Hollow) made a shark horror movie you can see on Crackle during Sharkfest: Sharktopus Vs. Whalewolf.
