Highlights and review of What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 2: A Night Out with the Guys
On the second episode in the fifth season of the award-winning vampire mockumetary series What We Do in the Shadows, Nadja investigates why she seems to be having a run of extreme bad luck, while Nandor and Laszlo have a night out with their human buddy Sean and his friends with an unexpected outcome.
Nadja is bemoaning the fact that her life is currently in the sh***er, mostly because her vamp night club burned down. This was caused by her, of course, because she was drunk off of liquor blood.
Laszlo tries to get Nandor to stop using hypnosis to solve every problem because he finds it embarrassing and artless.

When The Guide comes in and announces that she’s back Nandor and Laszlo make an excuse that they’ll be hanging out with their human buddy Sean for a while and leave so they can escape being with The Guide.
Left with a disconsolate Nadja, The Guide tries to ingratiate herself into the clique by being a shoulder to cry on. It’s not until The Guide pitches the idea that Nadja’s ill-luck was brought on by a hex that this girl bonding thing gets going.
At a wine bar with Sean and his other human friends, Nandor makes another faux pas about him being a vampire. Fortunately Laszlo saves them from another brain-addling hypnosis treat and redirects the convo with comedic timing.
Until two of their human dudes get way too drunk and get into a brawl. It’s bad enough that they crash right out into the window and destroy the bar’s frontage. When the police arrive, Nandor tries to defuse the situation with just his charm, like Laszlso showed him.
But Sean and the other guys beat him to it by putting handcuffs on the officer’s ankles and stealing the police cruiser. Not a good move.

The guys end up crashing the car and the vehicle turning turtle. They all get out mostly unscathed but then one of the guys finds the sidearm and empties the bullets by firing it into the air.
Nandor and Laszlo try to talk themselves out of trouble but next thing you know they’re behind bars at the precinct. Laszlo admits that they should get out of prison by using hypnosis but admits he isn’t very good at it and lets Nandor do the fixing.
With a widespread hypnosis, Nandor gets them all out and are saluted by all the officers in the station.
Highlights and review of What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 2: Hexed!
Back at the vampire HQ, The Guide uses her dowsing rods to track down the source of Nadja’s bad luck. She hones in on a framed photo of an old woman. Nadja recognizes her as a kind of witch from her childhood village in Antipaxos and remembers she was a real shit-stirrer.
Nadja rips up the photo and throws it into the fire but it keeps coming back, frame and all. Since it’s confirmed she’s hexed she tries to figure out what the writing around the frame means but admits she doesn’t know how to read Antipaxan anymore.
Consulting Colin, the energy vampire reveals that there’s a Little Antipaxos right on Staten Island and she can likely consult someone there for translation service.
With Colin and The Guide in tow they land on a crappy diner and discover that the words around the picture frame of the old woman says Nadja only needs to do an act of kindness to remove the hex.
Highlights and review of What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 2: Just bite ‘em again
Meantime, Guillermo and Derek are trying to figure out why Yermo hasn’t fully transformed into a blood sucker yet, what with it being three weeks after his transformation. The best he can do is turn his ears into bat ears.
So they pay a visit to Baron Afanas at his house in New Jersey central. They consult him as to why this might be and how to solve it. Theoretically, they might try to repeat the same process.
They try it on the Baron’s neighbor, a newly turned vamp. Derek bites him and lets him suck on his wrist. He explodes into plasma seconds later. Well, scratch that, then.
When the gang all reunite at Little Antipaxos, with a police escort courtesy of Nandor, Laszlo confronts Guillermo that he’s been acting strangely.
Guillermo in his nervousness confesses everything when Laszlo only thought their familiar had the shits. Laszlo suggest that he persuade Nandor to bite him again and then problem solved.
But remembering how the Baron’s neighbor exploded into blood slush he confesses that he doesn’t think that will work. Tough call for Guillermo, especially when Nandor finds out.
