Netflix: The Fall of the House of Usher release date, images and more
By Carla Davis
Netflix has finally released the news I and other Mike Flanagan fans have been waiting for. A premiere date for The Fall of the House of Usher, Flanagan’s final series for Netflix, has been announced!
Mike Flanagan is the genius responsible for Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club. Now comes his newest series, which is based on Edgar Allan Poe’s short story of the same title.
The cast is jam-packed with many of the actors we have come to know and love from his previous series and films. Flanagan directed four of the episodes, with Michael Fimognari taking over the directing duties for the remaining four.
Netflix had this to say about the new series:
"“From Mike Flanagan, the creator of The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, a wicked horror series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.”"
It should come as no surprise that The Fall of the House of Usher will hit Netflix during the Halloween season. You will be able to binge the entire 8-episode series on October 12
Who stars in The Fall of the House of Usher?
Bruce Greenwood (Gerald’s Game) appears as Roderick Usher, the powerful and corrupt CEO of a pharmaceutical company, Mary McDonnell (Scream 4) is his twin sister Madeline, and Carl Lumbley (Dr. Sleep) plays Investigator C. Auguste Dupin.
While other characters’ names and details have not yet been announced, we do know that the cast also includes Carla Gugino (multiple Mike Flanagan / Netflix projects), Mark Hamill (hello, Luke Skywalker!), Michael Trucco (multiple Flanagan projects), T’Nia Miller (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Paola Nuñez (Resident Evil tv series), Henry Thomas (nearly every Flanagan project), Kyleigh Curran (Dr. Sleep), Samantha Sloyan (that hateful Bev in Midnight Mass), Rahul Kohli (Bly Manor and Midnight Mass), Kate Siegel (Flanagan’s muse), Sauriyan Sapkota (The Midnight Club), Zach Gilford (Midnight Mass), Willa Fitzgerald (Scream series), Katie Parker (multiple Flanagan projects), Malcolm Goodwin (iZombie), Crystal Balint (The Midnight Club), Aya Furukawa (The Midnight Club), Daniel Jun (The Expanse), Matt Biedel (multiple Flanagan / Netflix projects), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), Annabeth Gish (several Flanagan series and films), Igby Rigney (Midnight Mass) and Robert Longstreet (multiple Flanagan / Netflix projects).
Although she is not mentioned in the press release from Netflix, IMDb also includes Lulu Wilson (The Haunting of Hill House) amongst the cast members. If you don’t know her from Hill House, you may know her from Ouija: Origin of Evil, Becky and The Wrath of Becky.
In an interview with TUDUM last year, Carla Gugino described The Fall of the House of Usher as “…bats**t crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.”
One of Mike Flanagan’s strengths (in my opinion) is his ability to terrify you with creepy storylines and images, while also touching and/or breaking your heart. He has a real knack for making you fall in love with his characters, so you really become invested in their stories.
I am really looking forward to hearing more about the series as we get closer to October. And, I will share details as I get them!
