Happy October everyone! To make sure this season is nice and spooky, I’ve got a couple of my favorite horror movies to share with you. First up is a newer gem that perfectly combines outrageous comedy with thrilling horror. Get ready for Ready or Not!

Made by Radio Silence Productions (Scream (2022) and Scream Vl), Ready or Not is a remarkable movie built around the classic children’s game hide-and-seek. Samara Weaving stars as Grace, a down-to-earth woman excited to get married to her lover, Alex. Alex happens to be a part of a very rich and strange family, but Grace is soon to find out that familial awkwardness is the least of her worries.

The night of the wedding, Grace is told that she must play a game in order to be properly initiated into the family. The game is chosen from a special box, and almost every card that can be picked is a harmless, classic game. There is only one card that means trouble, and of course it’s the one she draws: hide-and-seek.

Now the night truly begins. Grace has until sunrise to stay hidden from the family who is actively trying to hunt her down. What happens if she gets caught? They’ll try to sacrifice her to Satan!

“It says hide and seek, are we really gonna play that?”

Even though it’s a serious situation, each quirky member of the Le Domas family manage to make this movie a brilliant dark comedy. These people aren’t exactly cut out for hunting a human, and it gets more hectic as they begin to question whether or not they need to be doing it. See, they believe that their Le Domas ancestor secured the family’s success and wealth by making a deal with the Devil. As a part of this deal, they would have to make everyone who married into the family draw a card and play a game. If the newlywed draws the hide-and-seek card, the family has to find and sacrifice them.

Did this deal with the Devil actually happen? As the family is unsure, so are we. If they don’t kill Grace by sunrise, will the family die or have they been doing this for no reason? You’ll have to watch to find out!

Ready or Not is currently available to rent/buy on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Vudu.
