Here’s where else you’ve seen the cast for The Fall of the House of Usher
By Carla Davis
Mike Flanagan is an amazing horror film maker, and one of his biggest strengths is his ability to bring back so many talented actors again and again. He must be a joy to work with, because nearly every lead actor in The Fall of the House of Usher has worked for Flanagan multiple times.
Mike Flanagan has always re-employed his favorite actors, of course. But with The Fall of the House of Usher being his last series for Netflix, he has really gone all-out this time, with some actors coming back to play even small roles. So, which Flanagan faves are on board for The Fall of the House of Usher?
Lulu Wilson (teenage Madeline) – Not only did Lulu Wilson appear in The Haunting of Hill House as the younger version of Shirley, she was also in Ouija: Origin of Evil. That was a sequel which was far better than the original film, and a lot of that was due to her appearance as Doris. Lulu doesn’t have a very large role in The Fall of the House of Usher, but it is an important one.
Bruce Greenwood (Roderick Usher) – Greenwood has appeared in Flanagan’s Netflix Original film Gerald’s Game, as well as his theatrical release Doctor Sleep. He also apparently put in an uncredited appearance as one of the many ghosts in The Haunting of Hill House.
Carla Gugino (Verna) – One of Flanagan’s favorite actresses to work with, Gugino was the ethereal Olivia Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, The Storyteller in The Haunting of Bly Manor and she even put in a brief cameo appearance as the voice of the judge in Midnight Mass. She played the lead role of Jessie in Gerald’s Game.
Henry Thomas (Frederick) – Thomas was mostly known for his role of Elliott in one of the biggest films of the 1980s, ET before he began working for Mike Flanagan. He played the doomed preacher in Ouija: Origin of Evil, the lecherous father in Gerald’s Game and the younger version of Jack Torrance in Doctor Sleep. As for his Flanagan series work, he was the younger Hugh Crain in The Haunting of Hill House, Henry Wingrave in The Haunting of Bly Manor, Ed in Midnight Mass and Freedom Jack in The Midnight Club.
Kate Siegel (Camille) – Yes, Kate is married to Mike Flanagan. But, she is also a great actress, and fully deserved each and every role she has played in his films. She was Marisol in Oculus and Maddie in Hush (which she also co-wrote). She also appeared in Ouija: Origin of Evil and Gerald’s Game. Her series work includes playing Theo in The Haunting of Hill House, that super-creepy Lady of the Lake in The Haunting of Bly Manor and Erin in Midnight Mass.
Rahul Kohli (Napoleon Usher) – Kohli’s first Flanagan role was that of sweet, soulful Owen in The Haunting of Bly Manor. He played Sheriff Hassan in Midnight Mass and Vincent Beggs in The Midnight Club.
Zach Gilford (young adult Roderick) – Gilford is fairly new to the Flanagan flock of actors, first appearing in Midnight Mass in the central role of Riley Flynn. He then appeared in The Midnight Club as Mark. I would say we should keep our eyes open, I’m pretty sure he is going to appear in more Flanagan projects in the future, especially since he does such a killer job in The Fall of the House of Usher.
Carl Lumbly (C. Auguste Dupin) – Carl played the role of Dick Hallorann in Doctor Sleep, Flanagan’s sequel to The Shining. He did a great job mirroring the performance of Scatman Crothers, who played the character in Kubrick’s film, and his rendition of Dupin makes us really care about the character.
Annabeth Gish (Eliza) – Gish plays the small but very important role of Roderick and Madeline’s mother. In the past, she appeared as Dr. Sarah Gunning in Micnight Mass and as Mrs. Dudley in The Haunting of Hill House.
Michael Trucco (Rufus Wilmot Griswold) – His portrayal of Griswold is great, making him a character that we kind of feel deserves his grisly fate. Trucco was previously seen in Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club.
Samantha Sloyan (Tamerlane Usher) – As the twisted Tammy, Sloyan shines, as usual. Her most memorable Flanagan character was that of Bev in Midnight Mass, but she also played roles in The Midnight Club, The Haunting of Hill House and Hush.
T’Nia Miller (Victorine) – Not only is Miller an incredible actress, she is gorgeous, and she played the sympathetic Hannah Gross in The Haunting of Bly Manor. Her chemistry with Rahul Kohli was magical in that one.
Ruth Codd (Juno) – Her portrayal of Anya made her the most talked-about actor in The Midnight Club. What was amazing is that she had no prior acting experience before she was cast; instead, she had become popular on TikTok after posting videos.
Not every character in The Fall of the House of Usher was obnoxious
Katie Parker (Annabelle Lee) – Annabelle was one of the few honestly sympathetic characters in The Fall of the House of Usher, and Parker gave her a genuine dose of sweetness and hurt. She appeared in The Midnight Club, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House and Absentia.
Kyliegh Curran (Lenore) – Curran played the central role of Abra in Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep before joining the cast of The Fall of the House of Usher. Much like Annabelle, Lenore was a rare sympathetic character in Usher, and we genuinely care about her.
Igby Rigney (Toby) – The character of Toby mainly existed as a toy for Camille, but viewers had to be impressed when he finally stood up to her. Prior to joining The Fall of the House of Usher, Rigney portrayed Riley’s brother Warren in Midnight Mass, and he also put in a strong performance in The Midnight Club.
Sauriyan Sapkota (Prospero) – As the youngest of the Usher offspring, Prospero was also the first to die (in an especially grisly manner). Sapkota also appeared as Amesh in The Midnight Club.
Robert Longstreet (Mr. Longfellow) – Longstreet has typically played sympathetic (if conflicted) characters for Flanagan. He was in The Midnight Club and Midnight Mass (in the especially heartbreaking role of Joe Collie), and he also appeared in Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House.
Aya Furukawa (Tina) – As Camille’s other plaything, Furukawa played a small role in The Fall of the House of Usher. But she also played Natsuki in The Midnight Club.
It would be wrong of me to leave The Newton Brothers off this list. In addition to writing the musical score for The Fall of the House of Usher, they also wrote music for The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, Gerald’s Game, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Before I Wake, Hush and Oculus.
