New Christmas horror movies to brighten your holiday
Christmas horror is a constantly updating genre. Don’t feel stuck on rewatching the classics!
Have you seen all the classic Christmas horror movies? I’m sure Black Christmas, Silent Night Deadly Night, and Krampus have all been replayed on your TVs, but 2023 has given us some more movies to shake up our holiday.
With some whimsical horror comedy and some bloody psychological grit, make sure to add the following movies to your Christmas list. All of these movies are rated R, so if you’re watching with the family, maybe put the kids to bed first.
There’s Something in the Barn
This Christmas horror comedy takes place in the snowy mountains of Norway. When an American family inherits a quiet cabin in Norway, they discover that their new barn is home to a little Christmas creature who will stop at nothing to get rid of them.
There’s Something in the Barn is available to rent on YouTube and Prime Video.
It’s a Wonderful Knife
As I’m sure you could tell by the title, this one is also a Christmas horror comedy. On Christmas Eve night, a masked killer wreaks havoc on a small town before being taken out by almost-victim Winnie. A year later, Winnie feels tormented by her existence and wishes she was never born.
In a direct parallel to It’s a Wonderful Life, Winnie sees what would have happened if she had never been born, and thus if she never stopped the murderer. Shoutout to this movie for featuring Ginger Snap’s very own Katharine Isabelle.
It’s a Wonderful Knife is available to stream on Shudder and AMC Plus. You can also watch it with a premium subscription to the Roku channel or Prime Video.
The Sacrifice Game
This Shudder original is set at a boarding school in 1971. When young students Samantha and Clara find out that they can’t go home for the holidays, their Christmas seems to be ruined. Soon enough, Christmas gets a lot worse when a dangerous group breaks in and attempts to summon a demon.
The Sacrifice Game is available to stream on Shudder and AMC Plus. You can also watch it with a premium subscription to the Roku Channel or Prime Video.
Snow Falls
We all like the idea of a white Christmas, but perhaps not when the snow falls too hard. In this movie, a brutal snow storm rolls in and leaves five friends stranded in a lone cabin. Lacking resources and losing sanity, they begin to suspect that the snow outside might be… evil.
Snow Falls is available to rent on Prime Video, YouTube, and Vudu.
