4 things we would like to see happen in a potential Beetlejuice 3

It's a good day for horror fans because the ghost with the most is back! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is now streaming on Max, and we couldn't be more excited. If you didn't get the opportunity to see this film when it was showing in theaters, now is your chance.

In this highly anticipated sequel that takes place more than three decades after the first movie, we follow a now adult Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) who is doing pretty well for herself. She's the host of her own supernatural talk show, and she's happily in love with her boyfriend. However, it isn't all rainbows and butterflies, as she has an estranged relationship with her teenage daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega).

When a close loved one suddenly passes away, Lydia and Astrid pack their things and head back to Winter River to attend their funeral. But shortly after, things go all out of whack. A portal to the afterlife is opened, and the mischievous spirit Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) returns.

Like the 1988 classic that came before it, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is another entertaining horror-comedy. After watching the film, I was left wondering about a second sequel. Will there be a Beetlejuice 3? Well, the jury is still out on that one. A third film has not been confirmed. Unfortunately, if there were ever to be another movie, it wouldn't be happening anytime soon if Tim Burton is to be involved. He's the director of the first two movies. According to Burton, a second sequel is not at the forefront of his mind at the moment.

Although this is sad news, we're still keeping our fingers crossed that a Beetlejuice 3 does eventually get greenlit. In the meantime, we've been thinking about what we would like to see in a potential third movie, and we came up with four things.

Spoilers ahead from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Lydia's biological mom needs to make an appearance in Beetlejuice 3

In the first film, Beetlejuice, Lydia's biological mother wasn't in the picture. The only Deetz family members we meet are Lydia, Charles, and Delia. Lydia's real mom did not appear in the movie, nor was she mentioned, leading many to believe that she had died. However, this turns out not to be true because in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, we find out that she's very much alive.

There's a scene in the sequel where Lydia and Delia talk about Lydia's strained relationship with Astrid, and Delia makes a comment about Lydia's biological mother. She implies that she's no longer alive, and Lydia quickly corrects her by saying that she is. However, that's the only information we're given about her. Not a name or anything else. It could be that Lydia has an estranged relationship with her real mom, and that's why she's not around. But that could all change in a potential Beetlejuice 3.

With Delia and Charles dying in the second film, it would make sense for Lydia to want to try to mend her relationship with her biological mom in a third movie. She doesn't have any close living relatives anymore besides her daughter.

Delores LaFerve needs to return somehow

Delores LaFerve is Beetlejuice's vengeful ex-wife, who spends most of the sequel trying to track him down. Ultimately, she doesn't get what she wants because she ends up being eaten by a colossal sandworm that Astrid summons via the afterlife book. But is she really gone for good? I mean, Beetlejuice thought she was dead when he killed her with an axe the first time. Could she find a way to come back again? I hope so because she was a really interesting antagonist, and I would like to see more of her if there ends up being a Beetlejuice 3.

Exploration of Delia's life in the afterlife

After being bitten by snakes, Delia dies and crosses over to the afterlife, where she reunites with Charles. While there's no way for her to be brought back to life, I don't want this to be the last we see of the character. Besides Beetlejuice, she's the only other character bringing comedic relief. If there were to be a third movie, maybe it could explore how things are for her in the afterlife. I'm sure Lydia and Astrid will try to find a way to contact her from time to time.

An Adam and Barbara Maitland cameo

Adam and Barbara (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) were at the center of the first film. They were a recently deceased couple who enlisted the help of bio-exorcist Beetlejuice to rid their old house of its new inhabitants. While they were initially supposed to make a cameo in the sequel, Burton decided to reject their cameos in the end. Why? Well, it's because of them being ghosts and all. Adam and Barbara are supposed to be stuck at the age they were when they died (30s). So if they had made a cameo in the sequel, the actors playing them would've had to look the part.

Of course, Alec and Geena still look really good as they are now. However, the movie's creative team thought it was best not to go that route. Instead, they chose to explain Adam and Barbara's absence in the film. In the sequel, we find out through Lydia that Adam and Barbara found a loophole to cross over to the afterlife.

Since their cameos were shut down for the second film, I doubt they'd be in a potential third film. However, one could only hope!
