February might be inching toward a close but there are still several more great horror movies on the horizon, including the highly-anticipated next movie The Monkey from Oz Perkins.
Additionally, this week anyone who missed out on Companion in theaters will be able to rent or purchase the movie at home. Other than that, a few more horror films are slated to arrive on VOD, like the psychological horror film Cara and the nun horror movie The Baby in the Basket.
The Monkey
- Director/Writer: Oz Perkins

The Monkey has quickly become one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2024, and according to the critic score, it seems like it lives up to the hype. Praised for being wild and extra gory, The Monkey is a dark comedy horror film from Longlegs director and writer Oz Perkins.
The story is based on the Stephen King short story of the same name. Theo James plays twin brothers who have been tormented by a cymbal-smashing toy monkey for most of their lives. Believing it to be cursed, they must stop the monkey’s mischief before it kills them and their entire family.
Companion
- Director/Writer: Drew Hancock
- Cast: Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, & Rupert Friend
- VOD, Feb. 18
The first great horror movie of 2025 will be available to watch on digital this week, which is a little surprising since the movie just released in theaters on January 31. Yellowjackets star Sophie Thatcher plays an app-controlled “companion” robot designed to do whatever her owner commands, leading to a mix of disastrous results. This surprisingly funny and smartly written sci-fi horror flick is a must watch.
Cara
- Director/Writer: Hayden Hewitt
- Cast: James Dreyfus, Laurence R. Harvey, & Jacob Roberts
- VOD, Feb. 17
Described as an unrelentingly bleak psychological horror film about abuse, sex work, and trauma, Cara is not a movie for light viewing. Convinced that her doctors intend to re-commit her to the mental institution that she remains convinced was the source of much of her abuse suffered so much abuse, Cara develops a dangerous plan to avoid returning. Her plan involves using her online platform and a series of horrifying broadcasts showing her performing dangerous acts. Cara marks the feature film debut for writer/director Hayden Hewitt.
The Baby in the Basket
- Directors: Nathan Shepka & Andy Crane
- Writers: Nathan Shepka & Tom Jolliffe
- Cast: Amber Doig-Thorne, Michaela Longden, Elle O'Hara
- VOD, Feb. 17
If you haven’t yet had your fill of nun-centric horror films then might I recommend checking out this gothic horror movie about a convent on a secluded Scottish island in 1944? Over night, the nuns are surprised to find that someone has left a baby behind for them to take care of. Not long after the infant’s arrival, strange things start happening around, leading one of the nuns to question if the baby is actually Satan’s spawn.
Everyone's Going to Die
- Director/Writer: Craig Tuohey
- Cast: Jaime Winstone, Chiara D'Anna, & Lila Lasso
- VOD, Feb. 21
Very little is known about the latest release from Saban Films apart from the fact it is a home invasion thriller. The trailer shows masked figures breaking into to the home of a father and daughter, informing them they will be creating an “unforgettable” day for Imogen’s birthday. Given the film’s title, I think we can surmise that it’s going to end badly.
