Even the most ardent horror lovers are likely missing a couple of movies in their catalog. There really is no shortage of compelling films to watch out there and thankfully some streaming services have deep catalogs with all kinds of hidden gems.

This time around, we're taking a peek into the library hosted by Amazon Prime Video. Below you'll find some of the underrated scary movies currently available for Prime Video subscribers to stream.

Alice, Sweet Alice (1976)

A series of brutal stabbings beginning with a young girl’s First Communion leads to a traumatic investigation where the girl’s sister (Brooke Shields in her film debut) becomes a prime suspect. Fans of psychological horror will want to check this one out, especially as it’s also a slasher movie.

Alfred Hitchcock’s films were an influence on director and co-writer Alfred Sole along with the 1973 film Don’t Look Now. Like many of the great horror movies released in this era, Alice, Sweet Alice was met with controversy because of its religious subjects, but it would garner a cult following and even become a subject of study for film students.

The Innkeepers (2011)

Self-proclaimed ghost hunters get more than they bargained for when investigating an inn during its final week of operation. The Innkeepers is from Ti West, the same filmmaker behind the X trilogy.

Before becoming a low-key inn, the hotel was a very grand location and haunted by rumors of a ghosts and other activity, primarily a bride who supposedly killed herself on the property. It’s also surprisingly funny at times and features great performances from its leads.

The Endless (2017)

Another movie from directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, the team behind films like Spring and Synchronic, The Endless is a sci-fi film with cosmic horror vibes about two brothers encouraged to revisit the creepy death cult where they were raised after receiving a cryptic message.

Considering they escaped the cult and have been dealing with the trauma ever since, they’re not super inclined to return, but the video message and an influx of strange phenomena lead them to understand a greater conspiracy might be at play. And if they can’t unravel the mystery, everything could be at stake.

Asylum (1972)

Try something a little different with this terrifying anthology horror film, similar to movies like Creepshow and the V/H/S films. Asylum was directed by Roy Ward Baker with Psycho writer Robert Bloch adapting for of his own short stories for the different film segments. The overall film starts with a doctor taking a job at an asylum and the different segments feature each patient Dr. Martin must contend with throughout his time working at the facility. Asylum stars several notable horror stars like Britt Ekland, Peter Cushing, and Herbert Lom.

The House on Sorority Row (1982)

Did you watch the I Know What You Did Last Summer-esque slasher movie Sorority Row? Did you know that movie was a remake of this underrated 1982 film? Admittedly, it’s not the most original premise, focusing on a killer terrorizing a group of sorority sisters after their graduation party, seemingly as a result of a deadly prank they played on their house mother.

Like many slashers released during the 1980s this one has become a cult favorite and funnily enough it was also loosely inspired by another popular film, Les Diaboliques.
