The Hellraiser franchise is a gem and spawned one of the most recognizable villains in horror history in Pinhead, seen above.

A classic “Pandora’s Box” story, the original Hellraiser revolves around a small puzzle box that unleashes, essentially, Hell on whichever poor bastard is unlucky enough to solve it. Here we have Frank who buys the box from a dealer and then solves it. As soon as he does, he is er…killed and his body is hidden in the attic floor by a mysterious figure.

We then meet his brother Larry and his wife Julia who move into the house where Frank’s body is hidden. From there, things get really screwed up.

We won’t spoil it for you but this is a terrifically creepy film that explores sin, desire and the pain it can cause. A true horror classic that spawned multiple sequels. Catch the original while it’s on Netflix.
