We're off to a good start this year with several horror movies having already been released theatrically and on streaming. Most of the major releases are also now available to watch at home, meaning you can rent Wolf Man, Heart Eyes, Companion, and more at home if you missed them in theaters.

Here are a few of our favorite new horror movies from the first few months of 2025 that are available to rent, buy, or stream from the comfort of your living room!

John Malkovich as Alfred Moretti in Opus

Opus

Mark Anthony Green's directorial debut will feel familiar to anyone who has seen the many "eat the rich" movies released lately. Opus is at its best when focusing on satire rather than horror, which tends to fall flat. But it's worth watching for the compelling performances from leads John Malkovich and Ayo Edebiri.

Edebiri plays journalist Ariel, one of six specially selected guests invited to a prestigious listening party for a legendary pop star (Malkovich) who hasn't been seen publicly in decades. Upon arrival at the Utah compound, Ariel begins to suspect that something strange is happening and uncovers a dangerous cult.

Sophie Thatcher as Iris in Companion
Sophie Thatcher as Iris in Companion | New Line Cinema

Companion

Critics dubbed this sci-fi thriller by writer and director Drew Hancock as the first great horror movie of 2025 (sorry, Wolf Man). Sophie Thatcher continues to prove she's one of the most exciting up-and-coming actresses working right now and certainly a modern-day scream queen between her roles in this, Yellowjackets, The Boogeyman, MaXXXine, and Heretic. This time, she plays Jack Quaid's companion robot, Iris. When Iris is invited for a weekend getaway with her "boyfriend," the trip descends into chaos when the truth about her identity is revealed.

Borderline

Cocaine Bear writer Jimmy Warden returns with this comedic thriller starring Samara Weaving as a '90s pop superstar and Ray Nicholson as her unhinged stalker. Duerson (Nicholson) has convinced himself that he and Sofia are meant to be.

His delusions have led him to believe he and the singer are getting married, so he breaks into Sofia's house alongside his two accomplices to kidnap Sofia and create the perfect wedding. It's an effective thriller that stays lighthearted thanks to its comedic sensibilities. Nicholson and Weaving deliver outstanding performances in the lead roles, as does Alba Baptista, playing Duerson's eccentric partner in crime.

The Heart Eyes killer from Heart Eyes
The Heart Eyes killer from Heart Eyes | Screen Gems

Heart Eyes

Heart Eyes mixes genres in an entertaining way, combining classic rom-com tropes with those from the slasher subgenre. The titular killer wears a mask with light-up heart eyes, hence the name, and targets couples on Valentine's Day.

Moving from city to city to avoid getting caught, co-workers Ally and Jay find themselves in the murderer's crosshairs despite not actually being a couple. Managing to be both sweet and gory, Heart Eyes is an original horror movie you don't want to miss.

Callina Liang in Presence
Callina Liang in Presence | Neon

Presence

This supernatural thriller from director Steven Soderbergh is an unconventional film that follows the perspective of a poltergeist haunting a family of four who have just moved into a new suburban home.

Most of these hauntings are told from the POV of the human characters, so Presence adds a unique spin that makes for a compelling and sinister watch. Soderbergh uses several long takes to create a palpable sense of unease as we watch the spectral presence haunt these characters.

The Parenting

Meeting your significant other's family members is a stressful enough event without adding a centuries-old poltergeist into the mix. The Parenting on Max is a surprisingly hilarious comedy-horror movie about in-laws and paranormal activity with a stacked cast that features Lisa Kudrow, Brian Cox, Edie Falco, and more.

When Rohan and Josh invite their parents for a weekend getaway, they find themselves in for a rude awakening as an evil entity haunts the house and takes possession of Rohan's dad (Cox). Hijinks ensue.
