It's a great time to be a fan of the Alien franchise with plenty of new projects in the works. Last year, Alien: Romulus debuted to critical acclaim and it became one of the highest-grossing horror movies of the year. A sequel is already in development. But before that, we'll get to watch a new Alien television series titled Alien: Earth, from Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley.
Alien: Earth will take the franchise into new territory as the Xenomorphs arrive on our home planet. The TV show will be set two years before the original 1979 film directed by Ridley Scott. Previous Alien films have all taken place in outer space, on strange planets, and inside ships.
For the first time, the Xenomorphs are invading Earth and a new teaser shows exactly how that will happen. The short video shows one of the menacing aliens flying through a plummeting ship falling right toward Earth. In the series, a woman and a group of soldiers will be tasked with investigating this vessel, which will obviously pit them against one of the most terrifying creatures in existence.
Because the series takes place before Alien, it'll be interesting to see what direction the TV show goes in and how it will explain what's happening on Earth in the franchise. FX is reportedly very invested in this series and it's possible that it could continue for multiple seasons.
Sydney Chandler stars in the lead role of Wendy. Alien: Earth also stars Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Kit Young, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, and more. There is no release date just yet but FX has teased that the series is coming this summer. The series will air on both FX and Hulu.
In addition to the video shared above, some key art for the series has been released, showing a close-up photo of a drooling Xenomorph that blends with an image of Earth. The tagline reads, "We were safer in space."
