This year has been excellent for horror so far, but we still have a long way to go and plenty more films to look forward to, including the upcoming A24 release Bring Her Back. Hailing from Talk to Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, this Australian horror movie will finally hit theaters on May 30 and the latest trailer suggests it might be the scariest horror movie of the year.
The latest trailer provides us with more story details than previous teasers, revealing more about Sally Hawkins's creepy character, Laura. A foster mother, Laura takes in two siblings, a brother and sister, who soon discover their caretaker has something terrifying going on involving a creepy ritual.
There is a brief clip of Laura showing her new foster children the bedroom of her biological daughter, Cathy. After Cathy died at a young age, Laura was never able to get over her death and is still grieving her years later. She's become obsessed with the idea of bringing her back to life somehow, and I'm guessing that her new foster children could be at risk.
Audio played over the trailer has someone asking Laura how she coped with her daughter being gone and she admits, "I didn't." Clips show her watching and obsessing over home videos. Then we see plenty of graphic and disturbing moments from the film, showing bloodstained floors, a convulsing child, and the ominous warning that something is deeply wrong with Laura. The lengths she'll go to return Cathy to the living is bound to come with a steep price.

Apart from the scary story expansion, the trailer also includes plenty of pull quotes from the movie's many rave reviews. Early buzz has critics saying Bring Her Back might be "the best horror movie of the year," and calling it a shocking film that pushes boundaries.
Other early reviews have praised the film for its intense and fascinating handling of its theme of grief and saying it's an extremely tense film that doesn't let up even once. Those who have seen Talk to Me likely have an idea of what to expect as the Philippou brothers previously explored similar themes in Talk to Me through the main character Mia, played by Sophie Wilde.
Hawkins is an Academy Award-nominated actor best known for her performance in the Best Picture-winning movie The Shape of Water from director Guillermo del Toro. She's joined by actors Billy Barratt (Invasion) and newcomer Sora Wong, who play the siblings Andy and Piper.
