A24 only has 2 horror movies scheduled for this year so far

It will be a quiet year for A24 on the horror front as the popular independent production company has only two horror movies scheduled for 2025 so far, and one of them isn't even entirely a horror movie.

That doesn't mean we're any less excited for what's in store, especially because there are plenty of exciting horror movies on the horizon across the board and A24 is just one of many distributors. But if you're someone who looks forward to what A24 cooks up year after year, you might want to keep your expectations in check.

A24 has gained a reputation for curating a great selection of haunting and thought-provoking horror movies, releasing titles like Midsommar, Hereditary, Heretic, and Ti West's X trilogy. Looking ahead to 2025, we've got two exciting titles to look forward to, including a horror movie starring Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and a dark comedy starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega.

Opus (Mar. 14)

Ayo Edebiri stars in this horror movie about a writer invited to the secret compound of a pop star who disappeared 30 years prior.

The early images for Opus, which will premiere at Sundance later this month, suggest a film similar to The Menu about a group of journalists and devotees trapped inside a luxurious cult-like setting, forced to contend with the whims of an egomaniac with a twisted agenda. In addition to Edebiri, the film stars Amber Midthunder, Juliette Lewis, and John Malkovich.

Death of a Unicorn (Mar. 28)

Funnily enough, both new A24 films are being released in March. Death of a Unicorn is a zany comedy-horror movie about a man and his daughter who hit a unicorn while driving to a work summit. Rudd and Ortega play the father/daughter duo. It doesn't take long for the greedy executives of the Leopold family to realize that the unicorn has supernatural properties they could use to make a profit. But as teased by the trailer, the unicorn might not be as helpless as it initially appears.

These are far from the only movies A24 is releasing this year, mind you. The company has an exciting lineup of films and several movies are still undated, meaning we could get a few more thrillers or horror movies that just haven't been added to the schedule yet. Beyond what's listed above, other A24 titles to look forward to include the coming-of-age drama Parthenope, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, and Josh Safdie's sports drama Marty Supreme.
