It sounds like at least one character from Thanksgiving will return for the sequel

A sequel to Eli Roth's 2023 slasher film Thanksgiving is officially in the works and will reportedly be released in 2025. Given how the first movie ended, we already have a rough idea of who will return, but a few actors have discussed coming back for the sequel, and Roth has teased that Addison Rae might be one of them. Spoilers ahead for Thanksgiving ending.
Since it has only been one year since the movie was first released in theaters, many are bound to rewatch it as the beginning of a holiday tradition. There aren't many Thanksgiving horror movies out there, and this one fully leans into its premise.
At the end of the first movie, Rae's character, Gaby, is one of several to survive John Carver's reign of terror in the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts. She survives alongside several of her friends, including Jessica (Nell Verlaque).
This past August, at the premiere of his latest movie Borderlands, Roth told a Variety reporter that he loves Rae and they intentionally kept her character alive "for a reason," which bodes well for her return in the 2025 sequel.
"It doesn’t feel like a Thanksgiving movie without Addison Rae," Roth concudes.
The article clarifies that despite Roth's comments, Rae has not solidified a deal to return just yet, but it's a positive sign that the director wants her back. Starting out as a TikTok star, Rae has found broader appeal recently with her pivot to pop music and acting. Thanksgiving is one of her most notable film roles to date but she will next appear in the 2025 movie Animal Friends alongside Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Vince Vaughn, and Aubrey Plaza.
Besides Rae, actress Nell Verlaque has also discussed the upcoming sequel. She previously told Total Film that she believes the second movie is a direct follow-up to the first and that her character Jessica will return. Suits alum Rick Hoffman, who played Jessica's dad Thomas Wright, also told the outlet he would likely be returning.
"Based on what I'm told, I'm involved – I don't want to give anything away, but based on what I'm told by the director, it's gonna be an interesting experience for sure," Hoffman revealed.
Verlaque says that Roth intends to "flesh out the characters a lot" moving forward, and examine how the first film's traumatic events have changed them.
Thanksgiving is now streaming on Netflix, stay tuned to 1428 Elm for more updates on Thanksgiving 2 as they become available!
