All of the new horror movies and thrillers coming out this final week of April

Horror lovers can finally watch a few recent theatrical releases at home.

As we arrive in the final days of April, there are still several films to look forward to ahead of May. Next month features big releases like Fear Street: Prom Queen and Final Destination: Bloodlines, but before that there are some smaller movies to keep an eye out for in theaters and at home.

Nicolas Cage is a surfer bent on revenge in the psychological thriller The Surfer, while Rosario is a darkly compelling story about a woman who learns that her family has been involved in the occult for generations. On VOD, we'll finally be able to rent or buy Blumhouse's latest release, Drop, and A24's horror comedy Death of a Unicorn.

Drop (VOD, Apr. 29)

A widowed single mother experiences a first date from hell when an anonymous sender begins bombarding her with sinister Airdrops threatening her son and her sister if she doesn't comply with their demands. And what are these demands? To kill her charming date, Henry. Drop is a stylish thriller in the vein of Wes Craven's Red Eye and will be available to watch at home this week.

Death of a Unicorn (VOD, Apr. 29)

Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd play father and daughter in this gory horror-comedy featuring an angry unicorn out for revenge. This A24 film received mixed reviews from critics, but judge it for yourself when it becomes available to rent or buy on demand this Tuesday.

Another Simple Favor (Prime Video, May 1)

A sequel to the hit 2018 thriller starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, Another Simple Favor takes us to Italy where Emily Nelson (Lively) is getting married. She invites her former best friend Stephanie (Kendrick) to attend as one of her bridesmaids, but when Stephanie arrives abroad, she begins suspecting that Stephanie might be concocting a master plan of revenge.

Big Freaking Rat (VOD, Apr. 29)

You know that slogan, "It does exactly what it says on the tin," well that's a good way to summarize Big Freaking Rat, a horror comedy film from Lionsgate. It is about... a big freaking rat. Said rodent mutates into a monstrosity after being exposed to toxic waste and goes on a rampage through a campground.

The Eternaut (Netflix, Apr. 30)

Netflix launches Argentine sci-fi television series The Eternaut this Wednesday. Set in Buenos Aires, The Eternaut follows a group of friends who get caught in a deadly snowstorm leaving countless people dead. As they try to survive, they discover something that makes the entire situation even worse. An invading alien army orchestrated the snowstorm, and it was only phase one of their sinister plan to invade Earth.

The Surfer (Theaters, May 2)

Nicolas Cage stars in this psychological thriller film that explores toxic masculinity and the territorial nature of man. Wanting to return to the beach he frequented as a kid to surf alongside his son, the surfer is humiliated when a group of locals prevent him from enjoying the waves. Determined to beat them at their own game, the lone surfer indulges in what becomes an increasingly violent conflict.

Rosario (Theaters, May 2)

Felipe Vargas makes his directorial debut for this horror movie starring Shadowhunters alum Emeraude Toubia and David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil). Toubia plays stockbrocker Rosario Fuentes. After her grandmother's passing, Rosario visits her apartment to sort through her remaining belongings and finds a secretive chamber brimming with occult artifacts. Her continued investigation leads her down a dark rabbit hole concerning her family's generational rituals and sacrificial practices.

Daydreamers (Theaters, May 2)

Vampires are truly all the rage right now, so it's a good time for this Vietnamese thriller to be getting a US date. Starting this weekend, Daydreamers starring superstar singer/actress Chi Pu will begin playing in select theaters throughout the country, preceding a June VOD date. The story is set 400 years ago and delves into vampire lore from Southeast Asia.

The Last Spark of Hope (VOD, Apr. 29)

Saban films is releasing this Polish sci-fi flick on VOD later this week. A woman who might be the last remaining survivor on Earth finds her world shaken even further when her trusted robot companion turns against her.
