Considering our real world is increasingly becoming more dystopian, one might find it hard to believe that many of us still enjoy escaping into dark sci-fi stories such as those at the center of Netflix's Emmy-winning series Black Mirror. The streamer just dropped the first full-length trailer for the upcoming season, teasing expansions of "U.S.S. Callister" and the interactive film Bandersnatch. Six new episodes being streaming on Thursday, April 10.

Since we still have a few weeks to wait until the series returns, Netflix has also shared several photos, providing us with our first looks at Cristin Milioti's return as Lieutenant Nanette Cole and Will Poulter as Colin Ritman, in addition to sneak peeks at the characters played by Rashida Jones, Emma Corrin, Paul Giamatti, Tracee Ellis Ross, Peter Capaldi, and more.

It looks like Milioti's character is going to be put through the wringer (again) as at least one clip shows her in a hospital gown. As for the Bandersnatch characters, Tuckersoft employees Ritman and Mokan Thakur (Asim Chaudhry) will both appear, though it's unclear in what capacity they will be involved. One episode looks to be about a computer game, so it stands to reason that's the where Ritman and Thakur will come into the story.

When we last left off with the U.S.S. Callister crew, they had finally escaped from Captain Daly's (Jesse Plemons) evil machinations, the waking up in a new, unmodded version of the video game Infinity with the intention of continuing their adventures in digital space. Jimmi Simpson and Billy Magnussen are also back for the new episode.

Black Mirror was created by Charlie Brooker and the filmmaker has remained the main writer since the start. While some episodes can be hit-or-miss, the British series has accumulated a dedicated and loyal fanbase, appreciative of Brooker's bold concepts about the future era of technology and its many downfalls.

Based on the trailer, it seems like this season is going to lean more into its sci-fi roots after season 6 was a bit of a departure with a few episodes veering into totally different genres. Black Mirror is usually at its best when it's focused on technology gone too far and the existential dread that comes from fearing the future, along with its trademark satire. Considering the real and scary rise of artificial intelligence in our world, it's going to be especially terrifying to see what Brooker does this season as A.I. and its potential world-shattering ramifications for the human race are teased heavily.

Black Mirror season 7 premieres on April 10, exclusively on Netflix.
