December is usually the month where horror takes a break, making way for more feel-good, romantic comedies to dominate the entertainment scene. Well, not this December. One of this year's best horror films will be released on Peacock that month. Can you guess which movie it is?
Drum roll, please! If you didn't get the chance to see Golden Globe-nominated actor James McAvoy give one of his greatest performances ever when Speak No Evil hit theaters back in September, you'll soon be able to watch this film from the comfort of your home. No, you didn't read that wrong. Speak No Evil is slated to come to Peacock this December. The exact streaming release date is Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, so make sure to mark your calendar!
Speak No Evil is a psychological horror film that was written and helmed by James Watkins, who is best known for directing the gothic supernatural horror film The Woman in Black, which starred Daniel Radcliffe. It's an American remake of the popular 2022 Danish horror movie of the same name from Christian Tafdrup. Additionally, it was produced by Blumhouse Productions.
The story follows an American family who, after befriending a British family while on vacation, is invited to spend the weekend at their remote farmhouse. However, as the visit progresses, the American family soon realizes that their seemingly friendly hosts have dark, unsettling intentions.
Joining McAvoy in the cast are Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, Aisling Franciosi, Alix West Lefler, Dan Hough, Kris Hitchen, and Motaz Mulhees.
After premiering at the DGA Theater in New York City on Sept. 9, Universal Pictures finally released Speak No Evil in U.S. theaters a couple of days later on Sept. 13. It received mostly positive reviews from critics, with many praising it for its tense and unsettling atmosphere and standout performances. It was also applauded for its ability to successfully mix horror with dark humor.
Speak No Evil went on to become a box-office success, ultimately grossing $76.7 million worldwide against a budget of $15 million, making it one of Blumhouse's most successful and profitable movies of the year. Although I already saw it when it was in theaters, I'm looking forward to rewatching it when it comes to Peacock. It's just too good not to see it again!
If you enjoy horror films that disturb on a deeper, emotional level, this is a must-watch for 2024. It might be a slow-burn, but you'll remain hooked as the situation escalates. Now, get ready for a uniquely disturbing viewing experience you won't forget when Speak No Evil lands on Peacock this December!
