Vampires are back in vogue it seems! Interview with the Vampire is a masterpiece that just received a season 3 renewal, Robert Eggers' long-awaited Nosferatu movie is headed to theaters in December, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are teaming up for vampire film Sinners, and one of this year's most popular horror movies, Abigail, was about a deadly vampire ballerina.

Now, it looks like Academy Award-winning director Christopher Nolan is looking to get in on the latest trend. The Oppenheimer director is coming off of a hot streak after his latest movie won seven Academy Awards and broke multiple box office records.

But let's back up a second before we get into the vampire rumor.

The Hollywood Reporter shared that MCU's Spider-Man star Tom Holland has boarded Nolan's next movie, which already lists Matt Damon as its lead actor. Nolan reportedly already wrote the script for the project and will direct the movie for Universal Pictures. The untitled film is currently scheduled for a July 17, 2026 release date.

According to THR, plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources have indicated that the film won't be set in the present, which lends some credence to the rumor that has been floating around.

Gizmodo says they heard from "a reliable source" that Nolan's movie will be set in the 1920s and focus on vampires. The outlet reached out to Universal for comment on the rumor, but hasn't heard anything back confirming or denying it just yet.

It'd be great to see Nolan do a genuine horror movie. He's ventured into horror territory before, particularly with his acclaimed psychological thrillers Memento, Insomnia, and The Prestige (which was a period film). But he hasn't done a full-on horror movie and a vampire film set in the 1920s sounds like it could be great.

Of course, the rumor mill could be wrong and it might be that Nolan has something entirely different in mind. Holland and Damon are known for taking on dramatic and action-heavy roles, so perhaps it'll be an action film instead. Or maybe a horror movie...just one that has nothing to do with vampires.
