Among the many streaming services available to us these days, I think Peacock is perhaps one of the most underrated. Not only does the streamer have some great original series and movies, but Peacock has an impressive catalog of new and old horror movies.
There are some modern hits available like Nosferatu and The Black Phone mixed in with classics such as Death Becomes Her and Sleepaway Camp. But somewhere in between you'll find a myriad of hidden gems that would be easy to overlook if you weren't aware of them. We've highlighted 10 horror movies everyone should watch, all on Peacock right now.
The Toxic Avenger (1984)
What better way to celebrate the reboot of The Toxic Avenger than by revisiting the 1984 splatter classic? You've never seen superheroes done quite like Toxie before. After a scrawny janitor finds himself swimming in toxic waste, he morphs into a mutant with superhuman strength, planting him on the path of vigilante justice.
Pulse (2001)
A techno-horror film about the perils of the internet from legendary Japanese filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Pulse is a must-watch that doesn't get near enough of the credit it deserves. Not long after a college student commits suicide, people begin noticing strange and ominous visions on their computers, suggesting that evil entities are trying to use the online space to infiltrate the real world.
Coherence (2013)
Coherence has been trending lately because newer fans have discovered the film via streaming. It went unappreciated when it was first released in 2013, but Coherence is the perfect movie for people who like a good mind-f**k. There's no other way to phrase that nicely; that's precisely the kind of film this is. I won't spoil anything, but I'll reveal that it's about a group of friends gathering for a dinner party when a comet passes and causes strange incidents around them.
The Void (2016)
Lovecraftian horror is a challenging genre to master, but when you achieve a fantastic cosmic horror story, the level of existential dread it will inflict upon your audience is unparalleled. The Void is one such film that nails its premise. An officer on patrol finds himself trapped in a hospital surrounded by hooded cultists and eldritch abominations.
Sick (2022)
Sick is a surprisingly slick and mean pandemic-era slasher movie from Scream's Kevin Williamson, with the writer's signature witty, self-aware dialogue impossible to miss. Despite being a streaming release, Sick has style in spades and feels like it could be part of the larger Scream universe. If you missed this one back then, now is the time to catch up.
Silent House (2011)
Elizabeth Olsen might be best known for playing Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but her acting career first started taking off with bold indie films like this one. Shot in real-time, meaning one continuous shot, Silent House is a nail-biting and claustrophobic thriller about a woman terrorized in her family's vacation home while cleaning. The story is based on an actual incident that happened in 1940s Uruguay.
Marrowbone (2017)
Movies that strike the chord between family drama and horror are some of my favorites, and Marrowbone is excellent for that very reason. Plus, it features a crazy good cast with Anya Taylor-Joy, Mia Goth, Charlie Heaton, and George MacKay. The film revolves around a group of siblings forever bonded because they must hide the death of their mother to ensure no one tries to separate them. As if that's not enough trauma for one lifetime, they begin experiencing strange occurrences at home, leading them to believe they might be the victims of a haunting.
The Invitation (2015)
Karyn Kusama's 2015 thriller The Invitation would make a great double feature with Coherence, so how lucky are you that they're both on Peacock? Both movies revolve around a dinner party between friends going horribly wrong. But The Invitation is a little more grounded, without the sci-fi elements. Still, the less you know going in, the better.
Tragedy Girls (2017)
When two best friends and reporters kidnap a serial killer, they realize they have a rare opportunity to radically boost their social media following. What if they were to perform the killer's murderers themselves while keeping the killer hostage as a fallback? A smart, fun, and crafty thriller with timely social commentary.
Starry Eyes (2014)
Between movies like The Substance and Smile 2, there's an ongoing horror movie trend about the many dangers of seeking and maintaining fame. Starry Eyes is a lesser-known 2014 horror movie chronicling the dark saga of an aspiring actress and the terrible price she must pay to follow her dreams.
