David Fincher might remake a popular show on Netflix (and no, it's not Mindhunter)

We're only a couple of months away from the highly-anticipated season 2 premiere of Netflix's blockbuster Korean series Squid Game and the streaming service already announced that the show will return for a third (and final) season, but according to a new report from Deadline, the Squid Game universe might be expanding.
Rumors about a potential American remake or version of the show have swirled around the series since its inception, and now it sounds like one could actually be taking shape with Academy Award-nominated actor David Fincher at the helm. Netflix subscribers know Fincher best from his thriller series Mindhunter, a short-lived show that still generated a very loyal fanbase that has been begging for a third season for more than five years now. He's also known for his other famous films like Gone Girl, Se7en, Fight Club, and Zodiac.
It seems like Fincher enjoys working with Netflix, seeing as his last two movies, Mank and The Killer, were both made for the streaming service. Deadline says the rumors "growing" these past few months speculate that Fincher is going to focus on a new Squid Game series in 2025.
Premiering in 2021 to critical acclaim, Squid Game quickly became one of Netflix's most-watched original series of all time and earned 14 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, with lead actor Lee Jung-jae winning for Outstanding Lead Actor.
Season 2 will officially premiere on December 26, followed by season 3 releasing sometime in 2025. Given the success of the show, it was always hard to believe Netflix would just let it go after three seasons, so it's not at all surprising that an English remake might be in the works. The fact Fincher could be attached does make the idea of it a lot more appealing, even more so if he adds a unique twist to the story.
Besides the potential remake in development, Netflix previously aired a Squid Game reality show called Squid Game: The Challenge and a second season of that is also in the works.
