Oscar nominee Luca Guadagnino is reportedly in final talks to helm a new American Psycho film adaptation of the 1991 horror novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis. We shared everything we know so far about this upcoming Lionsgate movie below.

So, we want to clear things up first about this adaptation. It will not be a remake of the hit 2000 satirical horror film of the same name starring Christian Bale. Instead, it's being described as a new interpretation of the book. If Guadagnino signs on as director, he'll be helming the film from a screenplay written by Scott Z. Burns.

Guadagnino is best known for directing and producing the movies Call Me by Your Name, Bones and All and Challengers. His most recent project is the upcoming historical romance film Queer which is set for a limited theatrical release on Nov. 27, 2024, by A24. He also has a thriller film he's currently working on called After the Hunt, which stars well-known actors such as Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny.

On the other hand, Burns is known for writing the scripts for movies such as The Informant!, Contagion, Side Effects and The Laundromat. He's also known for creating the anthology miniseries Extrapolations.

Frenesy Films will produce the new American Psycho movie adaptation, with Sam Pressman executive producing via his Pressman Film company.

Here's what a Lionsgate executive had to say about teaming up with Guadagnino for the new adaptation via Deadline:

"We are thrilled to add another elite filmmaker to our upcoming slate. Luca is a brilliant artist, and the perfect visionary to create a whole new interpretation of this potent and classic IP."

The 1991 novel delves into the life of wealthy, narcissistic New York City investment banker, Patrick Bateman, who lives a secret second life as a serial killer. Now that this new film adaptation has been announced, fan casting has started. In fact, an up-and-coming actor has even expressed his interest in taking on the lead role of Patrick Bateman in the film. That actor is Cooper Koch, who is best known for starring as Erik Menendez in Netflix's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

He attended the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Oct. 19 and told The Hollywood Reporter that he hasn't played a serial killer role yet and that he thinks he could do it. No cast has been attached to this project yet, so there's a possibility that he could land the role. We'll just have to wait and see.

Sadly, this is all we know about the upcoming American Psycho film adaptation. We'll come back and share more information as it is released, so stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
