There are plenty of fantastic true crime documentaries available on Netflix and Max, but make sure you don't sleep on Hulu!

Hulu is home to many intriguing docs, partly because they are owned by Disney, which means all of the true crime content produced by ABC Studios typically goes to Hulu. But the streamer also has several original projects, like the upcoming story of vlogger Ruby Franke and the recently released serial killer doc The Fox Hollow Murders.

For those interested in watching a newer true crime doc, especially one they might have missed, keep reading for some recommendations!

Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke (Feb. 27)

A new series that has yet to be released (it will come to Hulu on Feb. 27), this docuseries will follow Ruby Franke, the former YouTuber known for her channel "8 Passengers." With more than 2.5 million followers, Franke became a popular figure for parenting YouTubers, especially because of her Mormon faith and rather strict parenting.

She would even discuss starving her children and limited essentials on camera. The docuseries will go behind the scenes of the family and the tremendous toll that Ruby's YouTube obsession had on her family and what eventual led to the vlogger's arrest.

The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer

One of the newest documentary released on Hulu is a four-part series produced by ABC Studios that delves into a notorious serial killer who was never caught. In 1996, human remains were discovered in Fox Hollow Farms, an estate in the Indianapolis suburbs.

It is believed that the wealthy businessman Herb Baumeister was responsible for murdering over a dozen men during the '90s, primarily gay men that he is believed to have met at bars. Thanks to new DNA technology and witness revelations, some of the dark secrets revolving around what happened at Fox Hollow have been revealed.

Wicked Game: Devil in the Desert

In 2012, a sheriff found a woman zip-tied and crying out for help in the Mojave Desert. That initial incident would lead to a years-long investigation into several notable crimes, potentially related to a hunt for buried treasure.

The three-part series is another recent release from ABC Studios and features people who had intimate access to the case. The doc features body and dash cam videos, police interviews, new interviews with the lead prosecutor and lead detective, plus much more.

Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan & Sara

This fascinating documentary about the popular indie rock band Tegan and Sara was released back in September 2024, but if you missed it, I definitely recommend checking it out. The indie pop duo has long nourished a loyal fanbase and worked hard to create a safe space for listeners whor esonate with their queer identity and music.

Then, someone took advantage of their safe space hacked into Tegan's personal files to steal her identity. What happened next was an elaborate catfishing team that would endanger countless people.

Vow of Silence: The Assassination of Annie Mae

Released in November 2024, Vow of Silence focuses on Anna Mae Aquash, a First Nations activist who spoke out publicly against police brutality and actively fought for Indigenous rights. She was tragically murdered in 1976 and her murder would go unsolved for 30 years.
