Max has announced an exciting new horror-comedy film on the way this March! The Parenting is about a couple who rents a spacious house for a weekend, only to realize that it is already inhabited by an ancient poltergeist.

The film has a stacked cast, including Brian Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Dean Norris, Edie Falco, Parker Posey, Nik Dodani, Brandon Flynn, and Vivian Bang. The story centers on a young couple, Josh and Rohan, as they plan the perfect getaway with their families. Tensions are already flaring between them, made worse by the realization that a 400-year-old poltergeist is haunting the house they booked.

The couple, their families, and their close friend must work together to get rid of the evil entity for good.

Max describes the film as a "laugh-out-loud story" and it will officially begin streaming on March 13. The Parenting was directed by Craig Johnson, best known for his work on The Skeleton Twins. Kent Sublette wrote the script.

The movie was actually filmed a few years ago, in 2022, per Deadline, so it's unclear why exactly it has taken so long to be released. But given Warner Bros.' track record of permanently shelving projects like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme, we should be thankful that it's seeing the light of day at all.

Deadline also provides some more details about the plot, revealing that one of the parents in the story will become "thoroughly possessed" by the poltergeist, leading Nik, Rohan, and "their meddlesome BFF Sara" to do what they can to save them and end the poltergeist's hold over the house and family.

Max is home to lots of great horror titles, including mega-hits like The Conjuring franchise and Evil Dead Rise. If you're looking for more underrated gems, they've got those, too! Interestingly, The Parenting also sounds kind of similar to horror-comedy series Shining Vale starring Courteney Cox which used to be a Starz exclusive but Max is now streaming the series.

The Parenting starts streaming on Max on March 13.
