After the major success of the supernatural horror film Evil Dead Rise, people were wondering what writer-director Lee Cronin would be working on next. Now we know. We just learned from The Hollywood Reporter that Cronin will be making a new The Mummy movie. More on this upcoming film below.
In July 2024, reports surfaced that Cronin was teaming up with Atomic Monster, Blumhouse Productions, and New Line on a new mystery movie. Cronin's Doppelgängers production company was also reported to be involved with this project. The only other major piece of information that was revealed at the time was the movie's release date. An April 17, 2026 release date was announced.
Now, five months later, we finally know what that mystery film is. According to THR, Cronin will be writing and helming a brand new take on The Mummy. Blumhouse confirmed this good news on its official Instagram page by sharing what looks like the title page of the script. Check out the post below!
Unfortunately, plot details are being kept secret as of right now, but we're not too much concerned with Cronin at the helm. Previous Mummy movies centered around an ancient, reanimated mummy who is awakened from its tomb and unleashes terror. It'll be interesting to see what spin Cronin puts on his version.
Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are producing and co-financing the film. Cronin's Doppelgängers will also produce. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher will executive produce. The release date of April 17, 2026, remains unchanged.
Cronin spoke with THR and had this to say about working on a new Mummy movie.
"This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”
As new information comes out about Cronin's new Mummy movie, we'll make sure to come back and share everything we learned. So, stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
