Another beloved movie is about to undergo the remake / reboot treatment next year. 1999’s horror-comedy Idle Hands was a box-office bomb on its initial release, but has since entered the realm of cult favorites.

Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Billy Bryk have been signed to write a “reimagining” of Idle Hands, which is planned to be released in the summer of 2025. They are also in talks to possibly direct the remake. Wolfhard and Bryk previously worked together on another horror-comedy, Hell of a Summer, which they wrote and directed, and starred in together. The two received a lot of critical acclaim for Hell of a Summer, which is quite a feat given their young ages; Wolfhard is 22, and Bryk is 25.

Finn Wolfhard achieved early notoriety because of his portrayal of Mike Wheeler in Netflix series Stranger Things. He had previously appeared in the series 100 and Supernatural, but as we all remember, Stranger Things was a huge hit, and the young cast shot to immediate stardom.

In addition to Stranger Things, he has appeared in numerous other genre projects, including It, It Chapter Two, The Turning, Rules for Werewolves and he lent his voice to the animated version of The Addams Family (he voiced the character of Pugsley Addams).

As previously stated, Bryk appeared in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but he also appeared in the films Night Shifts and When You Finish Saving the World, and played Billy Clanton in the series Wynonna Earp.

Completing the production “family” is producer Jason Reitman, who worked with Wolfhard and Bryk on Saturday Night and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Also producing will be Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd (known as Team Todd) and Gil Kenan.

The original Idle Hands starred Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Chucky tv series), Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer series), Elden Henson (Daredevil series), Jessica Alba (Machete) and Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill).

The storyline for Idle Hands involved a stoner teen named Anton (played by Sewa) and his friends. Their carefree lives take a turn when Anton’s hand becomes possessed and starts killing people.

Is it possible that Sawa might appear in the new Idle Hands?

It hasn’t been announced yet whether or not Wolfhard and Bryk will actually appear in the remake, and some fans have been outspoken about wanting Devon Sawa to put in an appearance. If asked, he would probably say yes, and he shared a cute story on X about the announcement of the remake, and his son's reaction.

The post (made on November 12) reads:

“My 10 year old ‘Awesome! Finn Wolfhard from the coolest show Stranger Things is making a new movie called idle hands!!’ Me ‘I was in Idle Hands!! I’m the original Anton!!’ ‘Sure dad. Whatever you say. – can I have a snack?’
