This past Friday, we went back to Shadyside for Prom Season and if you're anything like me, you're not ready to leave just yet. Listed below are five Fear Street books you'll want read if you loved Fear Street: Prom Queen and want to stay nice and unsafe in Shadyside!
1. The Prom Queen
The only place to start is with the source material, itself. The Prom Queen follows Lizzie McVay and her friends as they get ready for Shadyside High's annual prom. If being in high school and finding a date to the dance isn't hard enough, there's a serial killer on the loose who's set their eyes on the prom queen candidates!
2. The New Girl
While R.L. Stine had a few other teen horror books under his belt, The New Girl is the book that launched the Fear Street series in 1989. Cory Brooks, a Shadyside Highschooler, is obsessed with mysterious new girl, Anna Corwin. From his first glimpse of her, he's down bad and in love, but Anna is elusive and his desire for her takes him all the way to Fear Street. This one opens up with an eerie prologue told in the first person POV that is honestly reminiscent of Black Christmas. It's classic Stine!

3. Silent Night
I know it's a little out of season, but you can't have a mean girl clique like the Wolfpack and not talk about the original Stine mean girl, Reva Dalby. A Fear Street Super Chiller, you have another girl being stalked by a killer in red. While in Silent Night, he might be dressed up Santa Claus, it doesn't make him any less scary. Two sequels followed, Silent Night 2 and Silent Night 3, like any true mean girl, Reva just never really learned her lesson, but it's still a fun, creepy read!
4. Drop Dead Gorgeous
Released in 2019 as a part of Stine's Return to Fear Street line, Drop Dead Gorgeous has everything a longtime Fear Street lover could want. A mysterious new girl, Morgan Marks, with a mysterious past, and a looming homecoming dance. With a cache of dark secrets waiting to be exposed, this is a nostalgic read for any fan who grew up with Fear Street.
5. Who Killed the Homecoming Queen?
Another classic, Who Killed the Homecoming Queen? follows Eva, best friend of popular, pretty Tania, Shadyside High's new homecoming queen who ends up mysteriously murdered. Full of the kind of cliffhangers and shocking twists that Stine is known for, why not attend another school dance at Shadyside High this year?
For many, like myself, Fear Street is baby's first exposure to horror. R.L. Stine wasn't afraid to tackle the eerie and the gruesome. It was a series where not everyone is safe, some of your favorite characters may die, and you can never really guess who the killer is until you're reading the last page. The new series of movies has offered a way for new and old Fear Street fans to come together and enjoy. I sincerely hope it gets people back to the books, and that maybe one day, we'll see a new Fear Street book out soon.
Fear Street: Prom Queen and the trilogy are all streaming on Netflix now!
