Moving along to the fourth episode of Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Cece takes center stage in an episode inspired by the Monster Blood book of R.L. Stine's long-running series. The episode begins one month prior to the start of the show, with Devin and Cece still living at their mom's apartment. We learn that Cece has been lying about debate camp the entire time. She didn't get in.

Back in the present, Cece is prepping for an important interview with a Brown alumni, and she's feeling the pressure in a big way. Meanwhile, her dad and Devin are concerned with Trey. Anthony wants to inspect him and see if his "research" harmed him in any way, while Frankie and Devin are trying to determine how Trey survived being crushed by a car.

On Cece's way to the interview location, which is near her mom's place, she stops by her favorite local kombucha place, running into Alex along the way. Alex returns Cece's infected kombucha cup and attempts to apologize about the car, but Cece isn't interested. The kombucha shop only serves to make things worse since no one notices the cup is full of spores, and Cece drinks the entire thing. As you might have guessed, things go drastically wrong during her interview, with Cece experiencing similar symptoms to Devin, including leaking black goo and vomiting. Next time we see her, Cece has taken refuge in her mom's apartment but has no memory of how she got there. Panicked, she calls Devin.

He tells her to stay put, but that quickly becomes impossible as the goop Cece's been spitting up manifests into a giant killer blob and starts chasing her through the apartment. Nothing seems to stop it except minor shocks from her stun gun. She barely makes it to the elevator in time, and even then, she's not safe for long. The blob takes over the elevator, causing the whole thing to crash. Devin and Frankie arrive just in time to rescue her.

While waiting for the subway back to Gravesend, Cece and Devin have a quick heart-to-heart. Cece admits she lied about the debate camp because she didn't want anyone to know she failed at something. Their safety, however, is short-lived, as when they get on the subway train, the power shuts down and the blob returns.

Realizing it's after her specifically, Cece runs through the train cars until she manages to get out. Seeing a warning sign for a high voltage area on the tracks and recalling her stun gun, Cece lures the blob down onto the tracks and runs, with the electricity eventually zapping the blob, and then the entire thing gets taken out by the subway train.

Now that Cece, Frankie, and Devin are on the same page, there's some suspicion about their father. Could he have something to do with what's going on? The trio returns to Fort Jerome to investigate since that's the place where everything started. As soon as they arrive, they see Anthony exit the tunnel dressed in a hazmat suit. Frankie can't help but wonder if he's behind everything.

Odds & Ends

  • When Trey is first brought to the hospital, he's basically catatonic, unable to speak or do anything. His "doctor" turns out to be a complete fake and only Anthony realizes that when he spots her getting into a car without her lab coat and his Petri dish of black ooze seems to move toward her.
  • Trey eventually starts talking again but tells Jen he doesn't remember anything about what happened to him. The last thing he recalls is talking to Frankie outside of Devin's house.
  • Frankie and Devin share their first kiss before going into Fort Jerome.
